Thank you to Mrs. April Lemons for speaking to 11th & 12th graders about your role at Chick-fil-A Corporate Office leading Diversity Recruitment Programs and sharing how facing failure in college helped get her to gain acceptance into UGA's Henry W. Grady College of Journalism.

And Charmon Pittmon inspired 9th & 10th graders by sharing his testimony how circumstances don't define you, but your struggles help lead you closer to God.

Everyone is welcomed to join us in chapel on Wednesdays. Please check weekly schedules for elementary, middle and high school chapel times.
Student Diversity Council visits The King Center
The Student Diversity Council hosted a field trip for 8th to 12th graders to visit The King Center in Atlanta. They had a chance to hear from one of the original Freedom Riders, Hank Thomas, and Dr. Bernice King, the daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Visiting the original Ebenezer Church and going through MLK's birth home in Atlanta, GA provided them new experiences to learn more about Dr. Martin Luther King's teachings about non-violent social change.
ELCA's Director of Diversity Speaks at the Georgia State Capitol
Director of Diversity and ELCA Alumna Grace Lee was invited to be one of the speakers at Women's Entrepreneurship Day hosted by 100 Female Entrepreneurs. At Georgia's Capitol, she had a chance to share with 200+ women about the initiatives at ELCA in the area of diversity. She shared about our focus on GRACE based on Genesis 1:26 how we are all uniquely made in the image of God.
In the Middle School Classroom
Mr. Piette’s 6 th  grade Earth Science students investigated shifts in the Earth’s tectonic plates by completing a lab recently. They manipulated continental plates (sponge cake), oceanic plates (graham crackers), and magma (frosting) to see the impact of shifting plates on the Earth’s surface. This hands-on learning helped them better understand and process the standards they’ve covered in this unit in a fun, interactive way.
ELCA’s chapter of the Jr. Beta Club recently attended the Georgia Jr. Beta convention in Savannah. They had a great time participating in Jr. Beta activities and doing some fun learning about Savannah’s history after hours. Additionally, ELCA was recently named a School of Distinction by the National Beta Club. Beta Club promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students. Their motto is “ Let Us Lead by Serving Others ”.
ELCA is proud to announce that three of our middle school students were individual winners at the Georgia Jr. Beta Club Convention held in Savannah recently. From left to right: 8 th  grader Lily Wu placed 3 rd  in math, 7 th  grader Lewis Henderson placed 5 th  in science, and 8 th  grader Caity Patterson placed 2 nd  in digital art. Congratulations to these outstanding young leaders!

Justin Capp - ELCA Class of 2016, is in his junior year at West Point U.S. Military Academy.
Justin was selected by West Point to be the bearer of the American Flag at the Army Navy football game on Dec 8, 2018 in Philadelphia, PA. The President of the United States and top military leadership were in attendance. It is an extreme honor to be selected from over 4800 cadets, but it required intensive training and practice for Justin. A Spoonful of SAGE
You may have heard about the widespread recall of romaine lettuce.

Based on the alert by the CDC, SAGE immediately pulled all romaine lettuce from our menus until further notice. We can assure you that it won’t be served in your dining hall.

SAGE continues to emphasize food safety above all other priorities. Please contact your on-site SAGE Manager if you have any questions.
Recycle Old Technology at ELCA

ELCA is partnering with Ecyclers USA to provide an electronics recycling drive to provide students, parents, and faculty the opportunity to dispose of old electronics free of change.

Collection boxes are located near Mrs. Vicki’s desk in the main foyer and near the middle school portico entrance. See a Technology Intern or email Mrs. Fairley for details.
