OPPORTUNITIES...
It's time to pack SHOEBOXES!

The amazing journey of a shoebox gift begins with YOU and results in evangelism, discipleship, and multiplication.

The Samaritan’s Purse project Operation Christmas Child collects shoebox gifts—filled with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items—and delivers them to children in need around the world to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way. For many of these children, the gift-filled shoebox is the first gift they have ever received.

Watch and find out how to prayerfully pack an Operation Christmas Child shoebox for a boy or girl in need. It's easy to do and each gift-filled box is a Gospel opportunity.

RECYCLE YOUR OLD TECHNOLOGY

ELCA is partnering with Ecyclers USA to provide an electronics recycling drive to provide students, parents, and faculty the opportunity to dispose of old electronics free of change.

Collection boxes are located near Mrs. Vicki’s desk in the main foyer and near the middle school portico entrance. See a Technology Intern or email Mrs. Fairley for details.
A Day in the Life...
CELEBRATING DIVERSITY
GRACE Week
It was a great week of integrating diversity into the classrooms! Eighteen  teachers signed up having high school students teach cultural lessons or expanded their own curriculum with diverse lesson plans. These lessons included personality tests, implicit bias test understanding our unconscious biases, and how to create a more culturally responsive classroom. In elementary classes, high school
students taught about Mexico, China, or Kuwait, while K-3 and K-5 students heard cultural stories read by Diversity Council students.
Cultural Heritage Day
On October 31st, middle and high school students celebrated their cultural heritage by wearing traditional clothes. The cultures included countries from Ethiopia, India, Japan, Colombia, Mexico, Nigeria, and more! Thank you to students and staff for participating in Diversity Council's first fundraiser - $850.00 was raised for their student meetings and activities.
Hispanic Heritage Month
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, SAGE showcased Hispanic food for two lunches in October. The menu were top choices voted by students and teachers, which included churros, enchiladas, flan, empanadas, and build your own rice bowl. Also, Praise Band performed a song in Spanish as Andrea Sanchez sang "Oceans" by Hillsong in chapel, along with Ben and the other praise band members.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Seventh grade students in Mrs. Kelly's Life Science class recently learned how to use the compound light microscopes in the middle school science lab.  They prepared slides and will use the microscopes for various science investigations throughout the school year.

As part of our continuous effort to help our students “think Christianly”, Pastor Brian Shuler and Dr. Anna King-Ivey will visit all middle school students in their Bible classes this month. Mr. Shuler spoke to our 7 th  & 8 th graders about what God says about gender identity and Dr. Ivey will speak with our 6 th  graders about self-management & organizational skills. This is just one example of our faculty’s intentional focus on Biblical Worldview and living a Christ-centered life.
October is Missions Month at ELCA for the elementary school. Each grade focuses on a different country and learns about their culture and the missionaries who are called to share the gospel there. For the Early Learning Academy, October is the time they learn all about the helpers in our community.
Crowds of parents and other onlookers gather along the halls to watch the parade that includes every student in K3 through 5!

This weekend, on November 10th, we have several students auditioning for All State Chorus. They have to prepare a solo from memory, sing scales and sight read music. The students participating in All State auditions this year are Rebecca Duren, Helen Zhuang, Caley Ingram, Micaela Collins, Savannah Hoover, Loren Sullivan, Gabs Wright, Austin Smith and Alec Ramer. These students have been preparing since August for this audition. Good luck to all of them.

On Monday, November 12th, our chorus is having a concert at 7:00pm in the Worship Center. It will be the earliest Christmas concert ever, as the stage will be under construction the next week for  A Christmas Carol,  which many of our students and parents are also involved in.

Our chorus groups have been working hard and we would love for you to come help us usher in the Christmas season. You will not be disappointed!

A Spoonful of SAGE
Consumers wouldn’t eat at the same restaurant everyday, even if it was their favorite. SAGE’s Seasonings® program is how we keep the dining hall fresh and exciting for our students. Seasonings offers build-your-own customization and display cooking to break the monotony. At least twice a week, our Chefs surprise students with special menu items and sometimes even décor changes. Each venue makes its own calendar tailored to the community’s schedule and special events. But what exactly is a Seasonings event?
