What is the 'Give Stoke' program?
A program for businesses, and the business community, to be recognized and celebrated for all of their contributions to our community!

You ALL 'give stoke' through support of community organizations and initiatives through in-kind donations, volunteerism, sharing of skills or sponsorship and in so many more ways. The business community is so appreciated and this community support needs to be shouted from the rooftops! Due to safety & legal concerns, we have been advised NOT against this and instead have created this program so that the 'give stoke' emblem becomes the symbol of pride that is recognized throughout our community!

Take advantage of the remaining few key Sponsorship opportunities for your Business!

World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day was created to encourage dialogue about mental health, promote mental well-being, and remove the stigma surrounding mental illness.

Let's talk about Workplace Mental Health :
Depression in the workplace may look different than how it actually feels. Don’t wrongly assume your colleagues are lazy when they may actually be struggling with mental health issues, such as depression.

Workplace Stats (from World Federation of Mental Health) :
10% of the employed population have taken time off work for depression
36 is the average number of workdays lost per depression episode
50% of people with depression are untreated
43% of managers want better policies. People find it difficult to disclose that they have mental health difficulties in the workplace- yet nobody is immune from mental health difficulties

Tuesday November 6th @ 10-11am: Supporting Business Succession
Small business numbers are declining in all regional areas of the province except for the Lower Mainland. There is a coming wave of “Boomer” retirements that will call for communities to rally creatively to maintain services and vibrant business districts through the transition. It takes a village to support the successful transfer of a business to a new owner.
Is your community ready to provide that support? In this webinar, we‘ll discuss how local economic development practitioners can facilitate business succession by ensuring the right supports and resources are in place.

Health Canada & Scout Environmental are looking for workplaces across Canada who are interested in raising awareness of radon and encourage workplaces to inform their employees and networks about radon and testing.
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium in rocks and soil. Exposure to radon gas is linked to 16% of lung cancer deaths annually in Canada. All employees are at risk of exposure to radon, whether this is in their homes or workplaces. Anyone can get lung cancer from radon without knowing it and this is an opportunity for employers to take a leadership role by providing information on radon to protect the health of employees and their families.
All participating workplaces receive 2 free radon test kits and resources to distribute to employees as they see fit.

The best time to begin a radon test is during the fall/winter months, so now is a great time to take action on radon! There is no cost to participate in the Challenge.

Find out more details and register at and call us at the Chamber to find where you can buy radon testing kits locally.
