EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT
Sean Marsh, member of the Boy Scout Troop 99 in McDonough, will soon be submitting the paperwork for his Eagle Scout rank following the completion of his Eagle Scout project this past December.

For his Eagle Scout project, Sean decided to make homes and tables for guinea pigs that are up for adoption under the local rescue, Ruff Dog Rescue. He constructed six guinea pig habitats and eight platform tables for the organization.
“One of the volunteers for Ruff Dog Rescue is fostering guinea pigs. They were having a hard time maintaining the care of the guinea pigs and they needed some tables and houses, so I built those,” said Sean.

Christmas Cards for South Korean Orphanages
Students from preschool to high school helped make Christmas cards to be given at South Korean children's homes. With the help of many ELCA students, three children's homes received 396 cards of encouragement. The cards were also made by students living in Massachusetts, Arizona, and Tennessee.
Many of the cards said "Jesus loves you," with some students writing bible verses in Korean. Thank you to the ELCA teachers and students for bringing Christmas cheer and love to at-risk youth in South Korea.
Members of the ELCA Class of 2020 recently traveled to Orlando, Florida for their senior trip. The trip extended their Christmas break through January 12! It's back to work now.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Pilot Testing
The Diversity Council students will have a chance this month to take the new ACT Tessera test. The online assessment strengthens and supports student self-knowledge, goal-setting, and growth mindset. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) skills predict a student's academic achievement, their overall well-being, and career readiness. This pilot testing with follow-up discussions will help determine whether more students at ELCA will take the assessment in the future.
With only 18 weeks left until the class of 2020 graduates, this year’s seniors are already showing a great deal of diversity for their futures.  Mr. Teague, Director of College Guidance, says that more students are becoming interested in military careers and technical college pathways than in previous years. While many seniors are just beginning to weigh their options, others have applied to colleges and received acceptance letters. Congratulations to those seniors who have reported their status as of January.

ELCA alumni Kayla Hamlin (Class of 2017) and DJ Curl (Class of 2013) spoke to our middle school girls and boys in separate chapel services the first Wednesday in January. Their powerful testimonies were a great encouragement to our faculty and a testament to the eternal value of Kingdom Education! We pray that the Holy Spirit will bring their words back to our students’ minds & use them to work in their hearts.
Congratulations to eighth grade history teacher Brett Collier & wife Katie who welcomed their second daughter, Mollie Katherine, at 2:12 a.m. on Wednesday morning. As you can see, the girls are just precious!
ELCA Director of Diversity supports Korean children for Christmas

Through her work with Korean Kids and Orphanage Outreach Mission, the children also enjoyed learning English at a winter camp and 56 children enjoyed an amusement park of rollercoasters and snow sledding.
