Have a safe and blessed Thanksgiving break.
ELCA School Nurse, Linda Payne is happy to update our ELCA Family on our COVID cases.
NOVEMBER CASES ••• 0

There is an increase of stomach bugs and cold symptoms, as expected for this time of year, but our families are doing a great job in keeping sick students at home and being vigilant. If you have further questions, please contact Linda Payne.
Don't Forget...Break Extended for Students
Come laugh and celebrate this Christmas season with music, comedy, and special appearances from some old and new friends at Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church. This will be an evening for the entire family.

And best of all?

The show is FREE!

So bring your family and enjoy this time leading into the Christmas season! This is a great opportunity to bring a friend or neighbor, too! Seating is limited!

In order to keep in compliance with social distancing guidelines, we are offering two identical concerts with limited seating. We are asking everyone to reserve tickets for the night they plan to attend. No childcare will be provided.
We will livestream the Sunday show for those not comfortable joining us on-campus.

Youth Leadership Henry is an annual program sponsored by the Henry County Chamber of Commerce.  The purpose of Youth Leadership Henry is to identify emerging leaders, to bring them together in an atmosphere conducive to the free exchange of ideas, and to provide them with an enlightening educational experience. Participants are taught leadership skills while learning about the various government, economic and social sectors of the community. Upon completion of the program, participants will have an increased awareness of the vital issues and needs of the community and challenged to be responsible and engaged leaders.

Canned Food Drive

We did it! We had a school goal of collecting 2,500 items and we exceeded that goal by doubling it!

We collected 5,628 items which weighed over 3700 pounds (or 2 tons). Thank you ELCA family for coming together to show Henry County how we are the hands and feet of Jesus. We are stronger together, one can at a time!
This year is quite different than the past and in yearbook we are trying to find great ways to still collect stories and pictures from our student body to fill the book. As you may or may not know, this is our school's 50th Anniversary so we want to make this years book extra special!!!

To do this, we came up with a great way to collect pictures and stories...pandemic-style!

We have created google form surveys for our students and parents to complete throughout the year.

Would you please help us fill our book with some great memories?

  • Distance Learning: TAKE THE SURVEY
  • Summer Stories: TAKE THE SURVEY • What fun things did you do this summer even in the midst of the pandemic?
  • Quarantine Birthday Celebrations: TAKE THE SURVEY • Did you have a birthday during this pandemic? If so, how did you celebrate your birthday during the pandemic?
  • Grandparents' Day: TAKE THE SURVEY • Help us create a great Grandparents Day spread in the yearbook by filling out this questionnaire about your grandparents!

*We found it was a little tricky to upload the photos on the Google form, so here are some instructions for your reference:
  1. Click on "Add File"
  2. Then select either "Upload" or "Google Drive" (depending on where your picture is located)
  3. Then click the left corner button "Select"
  4. Then click "add file" again
  5. Then go to "Previously selected" find your picture(s) and hit "select"
Thank you in advance for your help in making this 50th edition look great!

For additional questions or concerns please email Carla Shoemaker.

The 2020 Grandparents' Day Virtual Presentation was AWESOME!

If you missed it, you can check it out at https://livestream.com/eagleslanding/elca!

AND...
While you're there, check out
The Grandparent Challenge video!

October 2020 was “Let’s make a memory with your Grandparent” month. All students were encouraged to go make a memory, in person, through a door, or virtually, with grandparents!
Parade of Nations
and
Community Helpers Parade
Each October, elementary classrooms learn about and pray for a country and the missionaries who serve there. The month is concluded with the Parade of Nations. This year looked a lot different, but it was been made more exciting by each class having the opportunity to speak about their country. Also...notice the participation by all the virtual students onscreen.

We are In Sync!
At ELCA, we are committed to synchronous learning for all of our students. This is very different from how many schools are teaching virtual learners during these COVID times. Pulling off synchronous learning in every classroom isn't easy, but we feel it is the best way for all students to remain highly involved in the day-to-day student life at ELCA.

As a part of this 'in sync' style, virtual students/parents are able to come to school every 3 to 4 weeks and bring and/or take away items such as projects, assignments, craft kits, even goodies that are being distributed to traditional students in the classroom.

Until we can all be together again...this is a great way to show our love for virtual students by taking great care of them!
Homecoming week was super groovy this year! ELCA is celebrating 50 years of empowering students to impact the world!
Do you have some great Homecoming Week photos to share?

A Glimpse of Recent Chapel Services
The past month of chapel services have been a true blessing for the ELCA family. It has been an honor to have alumni come back and lead in chapel. It is always encouraging to see how the Lord is using former ELCA students to further His kingdom in their communities and throughout the world.
Hannah Hudgins graduated from ELCA in 2015 and currently works for a foster care organization called Uniting Hope 4 Children. She spoke with the students about her salvation and the impact ELCA has played in her spiritual formation. She also shared about her involvement and work with Operation Christmas Child. She inspired the students that a shoebox full of toys is an open door for the Gospel and a tool that the Lord can use to build His church throughout the world. We appreciate Hannah coming back to share her experiences and encourage our students to be active in their faith.
Christian White graduated from ELCA in 2006 and is the Lead Pastor of Parkside Church in Atlanta, a church that the Lord called him to plant in 2018. Christian spoke to our students about the importance of having true faith in Jesus, rather than just knowing facts about Him. He shared a clear gospel message from John 4 and the Samaritan woman. He encouraged our students that Jesus not only wants to have a relationship with humanity, but that he willingly laid his life down for sinners to be forgiven and adopted into the family of God. We appreciate Christian and his faithfulness to the Word and the body of Christ.

CHAPEL IS LIVE-STREAMED EACH WEEK • Parents are always welcomed to tune in...https://livestream.com/eagleslanding/chapel
Congratulations Victoria Zember

Congratulations to Victoria Zember for being one of 5 signees to join the No. 1 Auburn equestrian team for 2021-22!

In celebration of GRACE Week (October 26-30), Diversity Council students made posters to share that diversity is more than just ethnicity or race.

We each have unique experiences, perspectives, and talents that God uses for his kingdom. While we have differences, we are all made similar and precious in his sight.
Cultural Book Club
ELCA has launched a Cultural Book Club for high school students, faculty, and staff to learn about different cultures. Reading books with unique perspectives broadens our knowledge in cultural competency.

In recognition of Native American Heritage Month in November, the first book chosen is Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann. A New York Times Bestseller, it talks about the mysterious murders of the Osage Indian nation in Oklahoma. Since local investigators could not solve these cases, outside help was needed on a national level, which is how the FBI was created.
2020-2021 Governor's Honors Program
Congratulations to ELCA’s Governor’s Honors Program Nominees. These students participated in interviews and auditions with other students throughout Henry County. Five of these students (notated by asterisk) will be moving on as state nominees for the Governor’s Honors Program.

ELCA Students Surpass
State and National ACT/SAT Averages

ELCA’s ACT and SAT scores for the class of 2020 were, once again, above the state and national averages.

ELCA’s ACT average for the class of 2020 was a 23.3 compared to the state’s 21.7 and the nation’s 20.6.

The class of 2020’s SAT average was 1139 compared to the state’s 1053 and the nation’s 1051.

All scores are based on 2020 high school graduates who took the ACT and/or SAT some time from grades 10 to 12.

Even though 2020 was a difficult school year, the percentage of students who exceeded the average scores is a testament to the work and dedication of both teachers and students performance each day in the classroom.

SAT
Top 10%- 1470
Top 25%- 1319
Top 50%- 1271

ACT
Top 10%- 33
Top 25%- 32
Top 50%- 29
Is it That Time Already?
In support of Georgia Accrediting Commission, each year the Governor issues a proclamation declaring November Georgia Apply to College Month.

Sixty-five percent of ELCA seniors have applied to one or more colleges/universities as of November 10. Students have submitted applications to over 63 different colleges. Some of the more usual and popular choices are University of Alabama, University of Georgia, Kennesaw State, Mercer and Georgia Southern. Other less customary selections this year, to name a few: Brown, University of Miami, UNC-Chapel Hill, George Washington University, Fordham, Pepperdine, Stanford.

We look forward to all those acceptance letters over the coming months.

Good work, Chargers!
An Easy Way to Raise Funds for Fine Arts
The mission of the FAP is to support the Fine Arts programs at ELCA by recruiting parent volunteers, fundraising, and helping the fine arts teachers in any way we can. ELCA offers many different disciplines of fine arts including drama, dance, band, piano, art, guitar, and chorus. This year the FAP has funded a brand-new kiln for the arts classes that will allow students to fire their ceramic projects.

Some of the ways we have helped to raise funds in the past have included concession stand sales and our annual cookie dough fundraiser.  This year we’re trying something different. We’ve partnered with a terrific group called Shop with Scrip. Their app, Raise Right, allows anyone to sign up and purchase gift cards at face value. In return, the school will receive a percentage of the sale. These funds will directly support our fine arts programs at ELCA.

Please consider downloading this app and signing up. You may purchase physical gift cards, or better yet, e-gift cards that download straight to the app. Physical gift cards are delivered to the school once per month and can either be picked up from Ms. Vicki or sent home with your student. Order by Thanksgiving for early December delivery, just in time for the holidays. Earnings add up fast with daily purchases—like ordering dinner or filling up your gas tank. Raise $1,000 or more every year. No extra money spent. No extra time wasted.
