Enhancing the lives of women and youth

in our community and the world.

Our Online Auction, Mad Hatter Tea Tickets, and Destination Raffle Tickets Information can all be found at www.SITS2024.com !

Good day to ALL!

President Shelly called our meeting to order

Lydia's invocation today was read and added to by Past President Nancy. It was a lovely recognition of International Women's Day. The first International Women's Day took place in 1911! Can you believe it? Most women then had no voice and little choice in how their lives would play out. How far we've come, but we still have work to do. Quoting the United Nations stance this year "Investing in women is not just a choice but a human rights imperative!" AMEN!!!

Sunshine goes out to Kim's sister's best friend Ned, who suffered a life threatening injury. Sunshine to Abby, Paula's daughter who had her car stolen and damaged soon after her move to So. Cal.

Shelly started off the meeting with a SOLT moment. (Soroptimist Orientation and Leadership Training) We did a memory test with a cookie sheet full of important SITS items. We had one minute to look at the items then go to our seats and write down all that we could remember. At our age, memory games are a good thing....After that Shelly talked about each item and how they related to the overall Soroptimist Mission.

Today's meeting was all about getting to know our SITSters more deeply. The task was to share either the favorite occupation we've had or our most life changing adventure. We had such great stories of inspiration, trials, learning experiences and love. Tears welled up a few times but were quickly replaced with laughter and appreciation for all we've been through and all we've learned. We are all so blessed to call Tahoe our home and to have so many wonderful, smart, good hearted women to call our friends and SITSters.

If you'd like to donate to the LTCC basic needs center, please see the list in this newsletter and bring your items to next week's business meeting. Thank you!

Bread and Broth needs volunteers for Mondays and Fridays:

Thank you so much for your current or past involvement with the Bread & Broth organization. Without you, our food outreach services which help ease hunger for hundreds of our community neighbors would not be possible.

Currently, Bread & Broth needs individuals who would be interested in assuming leadership roles in the organization.

Bread & Broth’s Advisory Board is seeking an individual for the position of board Secretary. B&B’s Advisory Board meets quarterly, and the Secretary is responsible for recording the meeting minutes and ensuring that all documentation from the meeting is compiled and filed with the meeting minutes.

Bread & Broth’s Second Serving (weekly Friday meals served at the LT Community Presbyterian Church) serves a simple entrée and a hot soup which are provided by various local community restaurants. Currently B&B is seeking 2 to 3 individuals to coordinate and pickup soups from restaurants and deliver them to the Presbyterian Church on Fridays. The soup coordinator is responsible for interfacing with the existing list of restaurant soup providers to schedule soup donations and drivers are needed to go on Fridays and pick up soup from the week’s designated soup provider.

Second Serving is also looking for assistant cooks to support the Lead Cooks at their Friday meals from approximately 2 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. once a month. The meals are simple entrées like meatloaf, pasta dishes, and sloppy Joes.

For those of you with leadership skills, B&B is looking for individuals to train as Lead Assistants for the Monday Meal dinner (2:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.) and the B&B 4 Kids program (Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.) Training is provided and you will be assisting the Team Leads in overseeing and managing the duties of the team volunteers. Lead Assistants are assigned to a Team that volunteers once per month.

If you are interested any of the volunteer positions mentioned above, please contact Carol Gerard at 310-256-1019 or carolsgerard@aol.com
