Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra Scholarship Winners 2024
|
President Shelly opened this morning's Scholarship breakfast by welcoming nearly 60 guests. Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra club members provided a buffet breakfast for our guests to start the morning off.
Invocation - Lydia's invocation reminded us that we do not accomplish our goals and dreams in a vacuum. We get help along the way from friends, mentors, family, teachers and others. We all should be grateful for those that helped us achieve our dreams.

The Youth Enrichment and Scholarship committee has been working very hard over the past several weeks, reading applications and recommendations. Chair, Wendy David thanked the school counselors for encouraging students to apply, resulting in over twice as many applications. As each student was introduced by a Soroptimist member or counselor, we were privileged to hear about student achievements, activities, dreams, and accomplishments. Many students also had to overcome challenges which was inspiring for everyone to hear. Counselors and teachers wrote glowing recommendations of how these students had made a difference in their school and community. When the morning was over nearly $20,000 had been given to deserving students to further their education.
Those receiving scholarships from South Tahoe High: Sadie Beall, Emmie Feil, Emily Banks, Noosa Higgins, Simone Stichon and Kimberly Gomez. From George Whittell High: Ella Moretti and Avignon Rippet. STHS Williams/Ennis Scholarships: Addie Menke and Breck Nealis. STHS Trade School Scholarship: DJ Brizendine. Mt. Tallac Rothschild/Torq'd Clothing Award: Hellen Aquino, Veronica Burgess, Brett Hardesty and Bruce Meek. Mt. Tallac Compass Award: Trisan Young, Ava Etchells, Anthony Rounds and Cora Ziegler. Most Improved 8th grade: Andres Barrios and Maya Gallup. Most Improved 12th Grade: Coraima Cota and Pedro Rico Vivas.

What an exciting morning for students, their families and Soroptimist members. We are so proud of our youth and so thankful for the ability to help them realize their future dreams. This morning could not have happened without the support that our club gets from community members and businesses who partner with us to raise funds through our on-line auction, Mad Hatter Tea Party, Destination Raffle tickets, American Century Golf Booth, and generous community donors.
