Enhancing the lives of women and youth

in our community and the world.

Wishing you all good health and happiness this New Year!

From SITS to ALL,

We are hoping that the New Year brings you peace, joy, and love for others and yourself! That last bit is key to a happy and healthy life because if you don't have self love, you don't have the capacity to love and care for others in the way you intend.

The New Year always brings us round to thinking about a resolution for the coming year, kind of a Self- 2.0. The practice of making resolutions to rid oneself of bad habits and to adopt better ones also dates to ancient times. Some believe the Babylonians began the custom more than 4,000 years ago. These early resolutions were likely made in an attempt to curry favor with the gods. So, what did you come up with for this year and is it too late to make any? Of course not! If you didn't come up with one or you're not sure how to begin, Good Housekeeping has an easy list of 10 ideas you might want to consider. Check it out here.

And if you need other ideas, remember, the gift of your TIME is more valuable than anything else. Simple, common things can make the difference in the life of others and yourself:

  • Join a service club such as Soroptimist of Tahoe Sierra! (Come on, you knew that had to be coming!)
  • Have an elderly neighbor or someone needing an extra hand? Walk their pet, run an errand, or hey, just visit a spell!
  • Even if it's not regular in your household, SIT at the dining table TOGETHER and eat a meal at least once a week. This can be the single most influential evening in your family's week. NO PHONES!
  • Take time for "Check in with your kid" moments. Really get them to tell you at least one new thing they learned in school that day. If they say nothing, then suggest you join them in class to make sure the teacher is doing their job! Seriously, if you do this regularly, they'll most like develop a habit of "thinking" about what they learned during their day because they want you off their back.
  • Join a service club. Oh wait, I already mentioned that! Okay then, support a service club! You can start by always reading this e-news. We work to share what's going on in our community as you see below. If you're able to help at a community event, then do it!
  • LEARN more about what is going on in your community. Did you know that January is Human Trafficking Prevention month? This affects all of us, some directly and the rest of us indirectly. Read more and learn here.

THANK YOU TO ANOTHER CLUB SPONSOR! Cookie & Paul Rork have joined us as Club Sponsors for 2024! We appreciate your continued support and so does our community. YOU are making a difference in the lives of so many. Learn more about becoming a sponsor or donor at our Club level here.

Looking for something to put your heart into this year? Interested in hanging out with fun and hard working women? Then join us at our meeting from 7:30 - 8:30 AM at the SLT Senior Center. It's a great way to begin your morning!

Our Club will be supporting St. Theresa's Bread and Broth program again this year. Our first opportunity will be on February 12th. We will be teaming up with Lasagna Love to provide the funding, lasagna and workers for the night. SITS is requested to have 3-5 Adopt A Day crew members (minimum age of 14) and they will be needed at St. Theresa's Grace Hall from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. to help the B&B volunteers with the meal's setup, serving, and cleanup. Mark your calendars, this is a wonderful way to help our communities less fortunate and create camaraderie with your SITSters. Please reach out to Kim to sign up as a crew member ASAP.

From SITS COMMITTEE Signup!

Our SITS club and all that we do are driven by the committees that we maintain. All members are asked to join at least ONE Service Committee and ONE Technical Committee. Service is what we do and Technical is how we roll! Please signup for your committees here. And remember, you are not limited to participating in any of the fun. YOU can attend any committee meeting or event!

FROM THE MIDDLE SCHOOL PROJECT COMMITTEE: This year, this committee, in addition to supporting the Challenge Day and Challenge Day Assembly also instituted an Essay contest. We received 50 Essays from the kids on what Challenge Day meant for them. What a wonderful way to help kids reflect on the change they can make in the world and in their fellow students lives.
