Enhancing the lives of women and youth

in our community and the world.

Our Online Auction, Mad Hatter Tea Tickets, and Destination Raffle Tickets Information can all be found at www.SITS2024.com !

President Shelly opened this morning's meeting. She reminded all that we start meeting at the Aspen Room in the SLT Recreation Center next week! Sunshine for Lois's cousin on the loss of her dog, our thoughts are with DeeDee, and Hellen and son Prince as he begins the long road to recovery. He is currently in Reno starting rehab. Abby thanks her "aunties."

Nancy read the invocation from Lydia's book today about living in the mountains and its many rewards, but Spring warmth and flowers are not some of them. We wait patiently and have faith for our climate to catch up with the calendar, It is an act of unwavering faith to garden in the mountains. As we watch the snowbanks begin to recede behind the clumps of leaves and trees yet to bloom, we are reminded of what is to come. "Spring will come and so will happiness. Hold on, life will get warmer," said Anita Krizzan.

Guests - No guests to greet on this chilly morning.

Thought For The Day: Today it was a joke from Shelly. What do you call a hen looking at lettuce? Chicken Sees-A-Salad.

GUEST SPEAKER JOE IRVIN

Our guest speaker today was South Lake Tahoe City Manager Joe Irvin. He updated the club on a long list of activities in the City. Joe started the job in South Lake Tahoe in May 2020, just as COVID has a grip on the world. He lived in South Lake Tahoe 2000-03 as he was getting his AA at LTCC and skiing, before heading off to get his degrees. Joe manages 216 employees, a $150M budget of which $63M is in the General Fund. The city keeps a 25% reserve which now has about $14M in it.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING: Sugar Pine Village will open the first phase of 68 units in September. The City was able to leverage $1.2M in local funds to get $120M in housing. The City is updating its listing of people waiting for housing which now has 900-1000 people on it.

ADUs: City Council voted to have three sets of plans shelf-ready for people wanting to put an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) on their property but don't want to spend the extra for plans. The home must have available coverage but rules have been eased to get an ADU added.

LOCAL IMPACT FEES: City Council has added a fee on all building projects 2,000 square feet or above. The City made $80,000 on the first house approved under this fee (it is 8,000 sq. ft!) Funds are going to help with housing.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Joe said they are seeing some investment but things are slow. He wants to see the Chateau project at Stateline move quicker (the building going on above the shops is for high-end condos).

TRANSIT: The City and El Dorado County are working to create a transit JPA to bring transit dollars to the South Shore. Expanding Lake Link, efficient bus lines, and other solutions will come from the JPA.

CLIMATE GOALS: 100% renewable by 2025 is going to be tough to meet, but they are trying. Hard to accomplish when electricity is supplied by Liberty, and they can't control where their power comes from. The plastic water bottle ban starts on Earth Day.

ANNEXATION: The City is cleaning up areas around the city limits that are part of the county when surrounded by city services. 5 homes on Lodi Avenue, 4 lots on Winnemucca, and 81 lots along Barbara Avenue. First steps. The city is also working to bring in Heavenly Cal Lodge into the City Limits - right now Lake Valley Fire and El Dorado Sheriff now service Heavenly.

New Recreation Center: Opens in January 2026! Vertical construction starts May 1 as all underground portions have been completed. They plan on roof by September so work can proceed inside all winter.

Joe said everyone is welcome to contact him should they have questions (he is also in our Auction!). He can be reached at 530=542-6000 or jirvin@cityofslt.us.

Bread and Broth needs volunteers for Mondays and Fridays:

Thank you so much for your current or past involvement with the Bread & Broth organization. Without you, our food outreach services which help ease hunger for hundreds of our community neighbors would not be possible.

Currently, Bread & Broth needs individuals who would be interested in assuming leadership roles in the organization.

Bread & Broth’s Advisory Board is seeking an individual for the position of board Secretary. B&B’s Advisory Board meets quarterly, and the Secretary is responsible for recording the meeting minutes and ensuring that all documentation from the meeting is compiled and filed with the meeting minutes.

Bread & Broth’s Second Serving (weekly Friday meals served at the LT Community Presbyterian Church) serves a simple entrée and a hot soup which are provided by various local community restaurants. Currently B&B is seeking 2 to 3 individuals to coordinate and pickup soups from restaurants and deliver them to the Presbyterian Church on Fridays. The soup coordinator is responsible for interfacing with the existing list of restaurant soup providers to schedule soup donations and drivers are needed to go on Fridays and pick up soup from the week’s designated soup provider.

Second Serving is also looking for assistant cooks to support the Lead Cooks at their Friday meals from approximately 2 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. once a month. The meals are simple entrées like meatloaf, pasta dishes, and sloppy Joes.

For those of you with leadership skills, B&B is looking for individuals to train as Lead Assistants for the Monday Meal dinner (2:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.) and the B&B 4 Kids program (Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.) Training is provided and you will be assisting the Team Leads in overseeing and managing the duties of the team volunteers. Lead Assistants are assigned to a Team that volunteers once per month.

If you are interested any of the volunteer positions mentioned above, please contact Carol Gerard at 310-256-1019 or carolsgerard@aol.com
