Edmonton — Delegates from local chambers across Alberta adopted twenty-eight policy resolutions to advocate with the provincial and federal governments during the Alberta Chambers of Commerce (ACC) annual general meeting in Lethbridge, May 28.

Policy recommendations put forward address issues ranging from electricity regulation to training for high demand sectors such as trucking and transportation. ACC's outgoing President and CEO Ken Kobly says working with members of the Alberta government to get these policy recommendations implemented in a timely fashion is important to ensure businesses can continue growing the economy.

"There is a lot of continued uncertainty for business with energy costs and inflation, and challenges finding talent. Working with business to remove barriers will be key to maintain Alberta's recent economic momentum and investor confidence."

Kobly, who retired after seventeen years as spokesperson for the ACC at the end of May, noted that the high level of engagement of local chambers in Lethbridge signals a strong voice for business in the coming months and years.

"What we see with these policy recommendations is an agenda focused on making it easier to do business and a strong chamber network to carry those recommendations forward to government on behalf of Alberta's job creators."

Bruce Galts from Lethbridge will take on the role as ACC Chair in the coming year.

"With an Alberta election less than a year away, business wants to see government staying focused on the big strategies that can position the province to prosper in the long term -- there is so much to do to ensure our business community can compete."

Brett Powlesland, President of the Leduc, Nisku, & Wetaskiwin Regional Chamber of Commerce, was welcomed to the ACC Executive Committee as Treasurer for 2022 - 2023. ACC Past President from Grande Prairie, Shawna Miller, stepped down and was was thanked for her seven years serving on the ACC executive.
