Congratulations to both
Campbell Kennedy and Adam Vermut
for their outstanding play in the Final Match of the “
President’s Day Match Play Championship
” at TPC at Sawgrass.
Both players advanced through the field of 32 players in the “
Russell Knox” Championship Flight
. The first three days of the championship was played at Magnolia Point Country Club and Hyde Park Golf Club during the President’s Day Weekend.
With the winds gusting to over 30 mph and steady at 17mph the challengers would hit the links with a start off of the tenth tee on the Pete Dye’s Valley Course.
Receiving the honors, Kennedy would stripe a driving iron down the center of the fairway some 240 yards. Vermut slapped a solid shot, but would open the door on the very first hole as his ball piped down the right side of the fairway would be blown lake side and into the drink. One down both players would throw darts through the wind for the next four holes with some solid ball striking.
On the par-4 15
hole Vermut stiffed an approach resulting in birdie from a perfectly placed drive to get it back to all square.
On the par-5 16
hole Kennedy would retaliate by pounding a drive and a second shot to 20 feet to go back to 1-up. They would both tie the par-5 17
with birdies and Vermut would win the par-4 18
hole. Now back to all square.
On #1 Vermut would do the pounding and would fly the green on his second shot which unfortunately landed in the tall grass behind. Campbell would capitalize to go back to 1-up.
