On Saturday, March 30, from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m., the Southern Museum will host an afternoon of living history and education focusing on two specific themes related to current museum exhibits, women during the Civil War and the two World Wars of the early 20th century. Local groups, the civilian and medical core of the Georgia Division of Reenactors Association, Inc. and the Peachtree Handspinners Guild, will interpret women’s experiences during the Civil War. Educators will demonstrate and discuss tasks associated with nursing and medical support during the war. The Peachtree Handspinners Guild will provide insight into daily life and chores revolving around textile production.
Carol Cain, a Georgia storyteller, educator, and affiliate member of the “American Rosie the Riveter Association”, will share the impact of World War I and II on women, discussing the rise of women workers on the home front and the stories she has collected from actual “Rosies” over the years.
