GARDEN GALLOP 5K – KENNESAW GRAND PRIX 5K SERIES

Registration is now open for the Annual Garden Gallop 5K!

The Garden Gallop is the fifth race of the six-race series. The course is a fast, flat course through Kennesaw’s Main Street and Swift-Cantrell Park and a Peachtree Road Race Qualifier. Registration is now open for the October 8, 2022 race day!

The Garden Gallop will benefit the Smith-Gilbert Garden Foundation, in support of the City of Kennesaw’s Botanical Garden, Smith-Gilbert Gardens. Runners are encouraged to celebrate the season by wearing their Halloween costumes.

*All runners also receive free admission to Smith-Gilbert Gardens, located at 2382 Pine Mountain Road, on Saturday, October 8, after the Race. SGG is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. – just bring your race bib!

First Friday Concert Series

The Kennesaw Downtown Development Authority and the Kennesaw Downtown Merchants Association are excited to announce the second annual First Friday Concert Series in Downtown Kennesaw.

From 7:00 to 9:30 PM, the community is invited to stroll through the Historic Downtown area, and enjoy an evening of shopping, dining and live music. The concert will take place at the Pedestrian Underpass/Tunnel Plaza off Main Street. Tables are available for reservation for $55. Tables will seat six individuals.

A Healthier You

Join Smith-Gilbert Gardens during the months of September and October on the path to A Healthier You! A Healthier You will feature programming and classes to encourage wellness in multiple aspects of our daily lives, including the mind, arts, celebration, fitness and family.

Fall-O-Ween

City of Kennesaw Parks & Recreation beckons area ghouls, ninjas, superheroes and princesses to “Spook-Central Park” for its annual Fall-O-Ween Fest at Swift-Cantrell Park on Saturday, October 15 from 3:00 – 8:30 PM. Admission is free.

Activities include a candy trail, costume contests, scavenger hunt, craft, field games and music. The evening will conclude with a showing of the Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (PG) after sundown.

Costume contests will take place every 30 minutes beginning at 3:30 PM and ending at 6:30 PM. Prizes will be awarded for three winners at each time frame. Costume contest is open to all ages.

The family favorite film Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (PG) will be projected onto a giant inflatable screen after sundown. For comfort, event attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or low-back chairs. Pop-up tents, canopies or beach umbrellas that can obstruct the view of others will not be permitted. Concessions will be available for purchase beginning at 3:00 PM.

Swift-Cantrell Park is located at 3140 Old 41 Highway. Parking is available inside the park, and at neighboring Kennesaw Elementary School.

Sanitation Rate Update

NOTICE: Effective October 1, sanitation rates will be increasing. Residential costs will be $32.50 per month for one can. Residents can still receive one month free if the annual bill is paid in advance. Commercial costs will be $32.50 per month for one can. These costs include one sanitation cart and one recycling cart. Household garbage will continue to be collected once a week, recycling will continue to be collected every other week.

Additional carts for both residential and commercial will be charged as follows:

Garbage: $18.56 per month per cart

Recycle: $5.75 per month per can cart

* While rates will go into effect on October 1, customers will see the rate increase on their November bill

**Stormwater & Street Light fees remain the same (not included in the above cost)

Seating in the City Hall Council Chambers is limited, due to social distancing. If you are not able to attend a meeting in person and would like to provide public comment on a specific agenda item, you can email kennesawcouncil@kennesaw-ga.gov no later than 6:00 PM the night of the regular meeting. Your comments on a specific agenda item will be read aloud or grouped into categories for the record.
