>>First place in Conference USA and five straight wins have turned Kennesaw State’s second FBS season into one of the nation’s biggest stories. On Tuesday night, the Owls look to keep their remarkable run alive when they host UTEP in a nationally televised matchup at Fifth Third Stadium (8 p.m. ESPNU).
>>“This team just keeps finding ways to grow,” head coach Jerry Mack said this week. “We’re not satisfied. Every time we go out, we want to set the standard a little higher. UTEP is a tough, physical football team, and we know it’s another big challenge.”
>>Kennesaw State (5–2, 3–0 C-USA) sits tied atop the conference standings with Jax State after a 45–26 road victory at FIU that snapped a 13-game road losing streak. The Owls have now won five straight, the second-longest active streak in the league.
>>Led by a dynamic quarterback tandem in Amari Odom and Dexter Williams II, Mack’s balanced offense has found its rhythm. Odom, completing more than 70 percent of his passes, has thrown for 959 yards, five touchdowns, and just one interception this year. Williams, who provides a bigger rushing threat, has sparked the offense in red-zone packages.
>>“They make each other better,” Mack said. “Amari’s command of the passing game and Dexter’s physicality on the ground give us versatility that’s tough to defend.”

Previewing Home Game With UTEP

>>“Just really proud of the way the guys performed last Tuesday,” KSU head coach Jerry Mack said. “They showed in all phases of the game a way to ride the emotional roller coaster like we've been talking about all season. It wasn't always as clean as you would like it in the third quarter, but those guys found a way to persevere and hold the team for not scoring a touchdown, and then come back with an explosive play that helped us separate from the opponent.”
>>“We know UTEP is a physical football team,” he said. “Their front seven plays hard, and their quarterback extends plays. We can’t overlook anybody. It’s about executing the details each rep, each quarter.”
>>Mack also called on the Owls’ fans and students to create a special atmosphere for Tuesday night’s game at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
>>“We need this fan base packing the stadium,” he said. “The energy they create for our guys on Tuesday night will propel us to do a lot of different things. If our fans come out and support this team, hopefully you get a chance to say you saw some history made as well.”
>>“We haven’t peaked yet. It’s about getting better every week and setting a new standard for Kennesaw State football.”

>>“This is a really good football team we’re going up against,” Walden said in Thursday’s press conference. “Coach Jerry Mack has them playing confident, physical, and fast football. They’ve earned that top spot in the conference, and we’ve got to match their intensity from start to finish.”
>>“They’re one of those teams you can’t key on one thing,” he explained. “Their quarterbacks—Amari Odom and Dexter Williams II—bring different dynamics, but both can extend plays, and their run game is tough to contain. You’ve got to stay disciplined in your gap fits and be sound in tackling.”
>>“We’re excited for the challenge, fired up to get on that plane, and ready to compete,” he said. “We respect Kennesaw State, but we’re not backing down from anybody. We’re going to play our brand of football and have fun doing it.”
