Exciting Opponents at Home Highlight Women's Hoops Third Year of Blue Era
An exciting schedule featuring 14 games inside the KSU Convocation Center highlight the 2023-24 Kennesaw State women's basketball season, third-year head coach Octavia Blue revealed Tuesday.

The home schedule is headlined by non-conference meetings against Georgetown, Florida Atlantic, Chattanooga and Belmont.

On the road, KSU is set to face Southeastern Conference opponents Vanderbilt and Mississippi State in addition to in-state trips to Georgia Tech, Mercer and Georgia State.

"We have most certainly assembled ourselves a challenging non-conference schedule," Blue noted. "We will learn pretty early on a lot about ourselves, which is what we've set out to do. If you want to be the best, you've got to beat the best and we are up for the challenge."

Coach Blue led the Owls to a 15-16 record a year ago, the most single-season wins for KSU since the 2014-15 campaign. The Miami alumna won 24 games in her first two seasons at the helm, the second-most by a KSU head coach in the program's Division I history.

Head Coach Brian Bohannon's Weekly Press Conference Previewing Saturday Vs Furman

This week, Kennesaw State football hosts a tough Furman Paladin team, who is ranked 7th in the FCS Top 25 following a 47-21 loss at South Carolina.

The Owls are coming off a 27-20 loss last Saturday at Chattanooga. They Mocs jumped out to a commanding 17-0 lead. KSU mounted a nice comeback scoring all of their 20 points in the second half. But the whole the had dug was too deep to dig out of and they ran out of time.

"Good offense. Good football team. I knew that before we ever started the season.

"You knew they had a bunch of guys back and you know what they did a year ago. (They were 10-3 and made it to the Division I Football Playoffs second round where they barely lost to #5 Incarnate Word 41-38.)

Coach (Clay) Hendrix does a really good job...a really good staff. They'll be well coached, ready to play.

"So, we've got our work cut out for us. But, we've got to take care of us first. We aren't going to have a chance to play a really good football team if we can't get out of our own way."

Furman Football Head Coach Clay Hendrix's Weekly Press Conference Previewing Kennesaw State

“This is a team that’s very mature, but their maturity comes a lot from guys who came from the transfer portal,” Hendrix said. “Offensively, they’ve been really run-heavy in the past, but how much do you read into the fact that Chattanooga held them to their lowest rushing total (102 yards) in their history. Does that have to do with them rushing it less...what's that breakdown?

“This is game two of a new offense. They’re asking those offensive linemen to do different things. There’s a triple-option element to it. I haven’t looked at their roster a lot. I know they added some transfers. I don’t know if, historically, they’ve been a big transfer place. I also think they probably lost some kids.

“There’s a lot of transition that is taking place. They were better this week (vs Chattanooga) than they were last week (Tusculum). I’m sure they’ll be better week three than they were in week two.”

“The biggest thing is we open the conference schedule next week, and certainly those games are the most important ones we play. But right now, this is the most important game of the week, of the year, this week. We want to head into our conference schedule playing our best football, and we haven’t done that yet.”
