Kenosha County Connection

July 11, 2025

The 2025-’27 state budget that was signed into law last Friday includes a few key items of significance to Kenosha County. These include:

  • $6 million in funding for restoration of the Kenosha Dunes in the Chiwaukee Prairie State Natural Area — an award that will support work to protect the shoreline from serious erosion and preserve southeastern Wisconsin’s last remaining stretch of Great Lakes sand dunes.
  • Funding for 2.5 additional Assistant District Attorney positions in our DA’s Office.
  • $20 million in additional support to counties statewide to help cover Circuit Court costs.

Supporting Small Businesses in Kenosha County

Community outreach includes helping our small business community thrive!

It's not something my staff and I do for recognition. Rather, it is something we do to help make Kenosha County a better place to live, work, and play.

So, when we heard Twin Lakes business owners were struggling to attract customers during Country Thunder we helped connect them with the promoters of the event.

It is great to see everyone working together to make the upcoming event a win-win for our residents.

The owners of the Cup O' Joe friends-themed coffee house were especially thankful for this effort.

It was an honor for Community Engagement Coordinator Jill Rozell and I to be featured on their iconic couch!

Celebrating Economic Development Success

Congratulations to Balcan Innovations, which broke ground this week on a 15,250-square-foot addition to its manufacturing campus in Pleasant Prairie. This is part of Balcan’s previously announced $200 million commitment to increased capacity and growth at the facility.

Just as Balcan is meeting needs for its clients with its specialized products, Kenosha County — the Gateway to Wisconsin — strives to be a place that’s desirable to do business, and this expansion is the latest demonstration of our success!

Also this week, Amazon celebrated the 10th anniversary of the opening of its Kenosha Fulfillment Center.

In that time, Amazon has established itself as one of Kenosha County’s leading employers, and one that gives back to the community.

As part of Thursday’s celebration, the company presented a $10,000 check to LakeView Technology Academy in support the school’s STEM education mission. Thank you, Amazon, for being an engaged corporate citizen in our community!

Honoring Community Leaders

I was honored to join Mayor Bogdala in presenting a Resolution of Condolence in honor of the late Dennis Bedford, who served as a guiding light for young people and their families during his many years as a Social Worker for Kenosha County and as Youth Empowerment Director at the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha. Dennis positively affected the lives of countless youth and he will be missed.

I also presented a Certificate of Living Legacy to the family of the late

Dan Fisher, whose legacy of servant leadership includes his dedication and commitment to the Westosha Kiwanis Club and the Village of Paddock Lake, and to the community of Lansing, Iowa, where he moved after spending much of his life in Kenosha County. He, too, will be missed.

Honoring another leader who is still very much with us, I have proclaimed Saturday, July 12, as Jo Wynn Day in Kenosha County, in recognition of her ongoing commitment to serving individuals and families in need. This comes as her organization, Walkin’ in My Shoes, celebrates its 20th anniversary of service to the community. Thank you to Jo and her dedication to the community.

Let Freedom Ring!

All across Kenosha County, patriotic celebrations filled the week.

Thank you to the parade organizers and volunteers in Kenosha, Somers and Twin Lakes, and to everyone who joined in the festivities!

For All the Dogs

(and Their Owners)

Did you know that three of our Kenosha County Parks feature dog parks where your pooch can play off leash?

These include the Carlisle Family Dog Park at Petrifying Springs Park, the Harris Family Dog Park at Old Settlers Park and the Warren Close Bark Park at the Kenosha County Veterans Memorial Park.

A tag, available for purchase on the county website, is required to use the dog parks.
