County to Support Housing Study

The county is sponsoring a Comprehensive Housing Study and Needs Assessment to support the ongoing work of the Kenosha County Housing Task Force, I was pleased to announce with Kenosha Area Business Alliance President Nicole Ryf earlier this week.

This will aid in the task force’s efforts to develop recommendations and strategies to increase the availability of housing for people of all income levels across Kenosha County. Through this study, we aim to learn more about the strengths, weaknesses, and needs in our housing market.

KABA Celebrates 30 Years of Success

The Kenosha Area Business Alliance’s Annual Meeting on Wednesday featured a pair of outstanding presentations.

One of them showcased the organization’s economic development efforts over the past year, while the other — presented by economist John Koskinen of the Wisconsin Department of Revenue — looked at the new Wisconsin economy with a Kenosha emphasis.

Honoring the Legacy of Katherine Marks

An outstanding group of local middle school students visited the county Administration Building earlier this week, for a Career Day event organized by the Katherine Marks Legacy Foundation.

The event complemented the "Passing the Torch" theme of the annual Katherine Marks Day observance that was held Sunday at the Kenosha Civil War Museum. Participants gathered in the County Board chambers to learn about county government from county constitutional officers and myself.

Meals and More!

Earlier this week, I joined in Kenosha Area Family and Aging Services Inc.’s March for Meals celebration, a weeklong series of events highlighting the importance of the Meals on Wheels program.

In addition to visiting with KAFASI staff and volunteers at the Westosha Senior Community Center, I had the pleasure of joining a high school teacher of mine, Gerald Anderson, on a ride-along on his Meals on Wheels delivery route in Silver Lake and Wheatland. It was great to see his volunteer spirit in action!

A Job Well Done

Kenosha Joint Services Board Chairman Monica M. Yuhas received a certificate of appreciation from Director Josh Nielsen earlier this week, recognizing her nearly eight years of dedicated service to the board.

Chairman Yuhas is leaving her position on the Joint Services Board as she retires from the County Board next month. I thank her for her leadership on both boards!

Seeking Outstanding Kenosha County Veterans

The Kenosha County Veterans Service Office is now seeking nominations for the 2026 Kenosha County Veteran of the Year Award.

This award, which debuted last year, honors veterans for their achievements and contributions after their time in service. Kenosha resident Milt Dean was our 2025 honoree.

I encourage anyone who knows an outstanding veteran to make a nomination!

Time to Tee Up!

Kenosha County’s golf courses — Brighton Dale Links and Petrifying Springs Golf Course — opened for the season this past Monday.

Last year was a record-setting season for rounds played at the courses, and we’re looking forward to another successful season in 2026!

Thank you, VITA volunteers

I recently visited the United Way of Kenosha County’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance center at the Job Center.

VITA provides no-cost income tax preparation services to eligible individuals and families, with trained volunteers handling the work.

A small handful of appointments are still available this tax season, and a free online self-filing service is also available.

Absentee Voting Reminder

In person, absentee voting for the April 7 election is now underway at municipal clerks’ offices across Kenosha County, continuing through April 3
