SWITCH TO REMOTE LEARNING
BEGINNING MONDAY, DECEMBER 7th
December 2, 2020
Dear Parents:

Due to the anticipation of increasing COVID cases within the community, Kenston High School will transition to a remote learning plan for all students beginning on Monday, December 7. This week’s remaining two days of in-person instruction will allow the teachers to clarify all remote learning expectations. As we pivot to remote learning, each student will be receiving communication within “Google Classroom” from their teachers with specific details regarding daily work and how they will connect virtually. Teachers will also be utilizing Google Meet and/or Zoom for instruction. It is important that your child follows the daily schedule, completes assigned work, and participates just as they would if they were in the building.
MODIFIED BELL SCHEDULE
MATERIAL PICK UP
  • A locker clean out will be required on Friday, December 4th so students have access to all of their academic materials beginning on Monday, December 7th. For any virtual students who need locker access, please report to the school this week between 2:30pm-4:00pm. During remote instruction, the KHS main vestibule will be open each day from 8:00am-3:00pm for drop off or pick up of any classroom assignments and projects that are not digital. For those who cannot pick up materials during the school day, please contact the specific teacher or call the KHS main office to schedule pickup times.
ATTENDANCE
  • If your child is unable to attend school virtually on any given day, please call the attendance office at 440-708-1811, otherwise the student will be considered absent if he or she fails to connect with the teacher.
LUNCH
  • The Nutrition Service Department will continue to offer free lunches to students during Remote Learning. If a family wishes to participate in the lunch program, a sign up process is available using a Google form. Meal items will be delivered once a week to one of the six pick-up locations in the community. The meals will cover the amount of days each week students are learning remotely.
STUDENT INTERVENTIONS
  • During certain times of the day teachers will have the opportunity to work with students who may have individual academic needs to address. Communication between the teacher and student will take place to schedule specific intervention times.
SUPPORT SERVICES
  • If your child receives support through an IEP, 504, or other specific services, communication will be shared on how to maintain continued services.
COMMUNICATIONS
  • KHS e-communication from the building will be provided to keep families informed of any important announcements or details regarding remote learning.
AIR END OF COURSE EXAMS
  • The Ohio Department of Education has scheduled first semester End of Course exams beginning Wednesday, December 9. Students who are scheduled to take these exams will receive a separate communication for all testing expectations.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES & ATHLETICS
  • There will be future communications regarding specific expectations of practices and competitions for all KHS extracurricular activities and athletics. This will be shared through Final Forms or directly from your advisor and/or coach.
Please don’t hesitate to contact our office (440-543-9821) or your child’s teacher.

Sincerely,
Tom Gabram
