Greetings!

Kent launches his spring concert season with a volley in the first three days of February at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine: on February 1 he conducts the Oratorio Society of New York in a (free!) concert of French Romantic sacred music, and on February 3 he performs a recital on the cathedral’s Great Organ (re-inaugurated last year after a six-year renovation): music by Jeanne Demessieux, Larry King, and David Hurd alongside Bach, Mendelssohn, and Widor (see complete programs below).

Then – two great choral works and a brand new one! He leads the Cathedral Choir of St. John the Divine on March 7 in Brahms’s A German Requiem (Ein Deutsches Requiem) with soloists Susanna Phillips and Joseph Parrish on a program with Carlos Simon’s An Elegy: A Cry from the Grave; Musica Sacra in the world premiere of Wayne Oquin’s On the Words of Walt Whitman with Susanna Phillips and John Moore on a program with other works by Oquin and Caroline Shaw on March 11; and Handel’s Alexander’s Feast with Oratorio Society of New York and soloists Lauren Snouffer, Richard Pittsinger, and Sidney Outlaw, on May 11.

(To whet your appetite for Feb. 3, have a listen to highlights from Kent’s 2025 organ recital at the Cathedral on last week’s episode of public radio’s Pipe Dreams!)

Kent and his Cathedral team will be bringing the glorious music of Easter to Holy Week services at St. John the Divine – see the schedule below and check the Cathedral calendar for information on livestreaming.

And Kent plays a dedicatory recital on April 26 at Church of the Epiphany, celebrating the arrival of their new mechanical-action pipe organ built by Bigelow Organs.
