Northern Lights Dazzle Kentlands Residents

Chris Campbell, KCA President

In an unexpected celestial spectacle, Kentlands was treated to a stunning Northern Lights display on the evening of October 10, 2024. This rare phenomenon, usually reserved for much farther north, lit up the sky with vibrant colors.

The unusual sight was attributed to heightened solar activity, and residents gathered in parks and open spaces like the lakes, capturing the magical moments on their phones and sharing their experiences on social media. Curious spectators alike were left in wonder as the lights lit up the night sky, reminding everyone of the beauty and mystery of our universe.

Erin Reed has provided a beautiful photo of the Northern Lights taken from Black Hill Regional Park in Boyds, MD.

If you would like to share your photos of the Northern Lights, we would be thrilled to publish them, space permitting, in our November Kentlands Town Crier.

The deadline to submit your images is Sunday, November 13, at 11pm. Please email communicationsdirector@kentlands.com

Proposed Administrative &

Equity Resolution (AR-3 & ER-6)

Vehicle Policies

Dear Kentlands Citizens,

As many of you may recall from my previous communications, the Kentlands Citizens Assembly Board of Trustees and management have been working to update Administrative Resolution (AR) #3: Vehicle Policies. While we previously published a revised version and opened the floor for comments, the Board ultimately chose not to vote on the resolution.

Recently, we have begun discussions about splitting AR-3 into two distinct documents. According to our By-Laws § 3-103b, Administrative Resolutions are designed to manage the use and control of Community Property, while § 3-103a covers Equity Resolutions (ER) that govern actions limiting or controlling property rights. For example, our Kentlands Design Code is classified as ER-1.

To clarify our vehicle policies, we propose to create two new documents:

AR-3: Vehicle Policies on Community Property – governing vehicle use in common areas (mews, clubhouse parking lot, etc.).

ER-6: Vehicle Policies on Assembly Lots – addressing vehicle use on private lots

We want to emphasize this change is not intended to impose stricter regulations than what currently exists in AR-3. Instead, we aim to align our documents with the language of our By-Laws.

We are now publicly posting the proposed AR-3 and ER-6 for your feedback. The Board will consider adopting these resolutions at the Board of Trustees Meeting on October 24th at 8 PM. You can share your comments via email at president@kentlands.com or attend the meeting in person. Attached to this email are the current Administrative Resolution #3, the new proposed AR-3, and the new proposed ER-6. All three documents are also available on the Kentlands website.

Thank you for your continued engagement and support.

Best,

Chris Campbell

KCA President

Kentlands is a NO Dumping Community

Illegally dumped trash is more than just an eyesore! It is expensive to clean up, negatively impacts our quality of life and economic development, and the plastic debris may end up in our waterways and oceans.

Dumping any waste on property that is not licensed as a disposal facility is unlawful. Illegal dumpers are subject to fines.

Help Stop Illegal Dumping

Each of us has a role to play in preventing illegal dumping. Let's not contribute to the problem, but instead, be part of the solution.

To report materials that have been illegally dumped, call City of Gaithersburg, Neighborhood Services at (301) 258-6340.

If you witnessed a person illegally dumping and have information (pictures, license plate #, etc.), please report it!

Don't contribute to the problem

If you hire someone to dispose of waste for you, ask to see their Waste Hauler License, and do not pay without a disposal receipt. Perpetrators will often take your money and illegally dump your items to avoid the disposal fee.

Rose Paving LLC

The Rose Paving LLC mews paving project is tentatively scheduled for Monday, October 28. Additional information will be forthcoming.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with Amir Ibrahim, the Assistant Manager, at assistantmanager@kentlands.com.

This past summer we celebrated our annual Kentlands Under the Lights festival with food, fanfare, and friendship. In order to make the event as special as possible in the future, we would like those who attended (and those who chose not to attend) to fill out a brief survey: Kentlands Under the Lights Survey.
