A Hot Car Is No Place for a Dog
By Sandy Al-Nazer, Office Manager
As warmer weather arrives, we would like to share an important reminder with pet owners: dogs should never be left unattended inside a parked vehicle – even for only a few minutes.
Whether stopping by Kentlands Downtown, running a quick errand, or making a brief visit somewhere in the community, it may seem harmless to leave a dog in the car for a short time. Unfortunately, the inside of a parked vehicle can heat up much faster than many people realize.
Even on a mild day, temperatures inside a car can rise quickly to dangerous levels. Cracking the windows open provides very little relief and does not keep the vehicle safe for pets. Animal welfare organizations continue to warn that leaving a dog in a parked vehicle, even briefly, can become life-threatening in minutes.
Dogs can overheat rapidly, leading to severe distress, heatstroke, and even death.
Please plan ahead when heading out. If your dog cannot accompany you indoors, it is always safest to leave them comfortably at home.
Your pet’s safety is always worth the extra planning.
