Kentuckians we help . . .
It's always a great experience working with a cancer patient who comes to the Kentucky CancerLink office to find a wig.   The process of losing hair due to cancer treatment is not an easy one, but hopefully we make the process of finding a wig easier.

Here is a picture of love and support that a daughter has for her mother as she finds a "new look."

Our Patient Services Room also provides hats (pictured here), scarves, post-mastectomy supplies, such as bras, prostheses and camis.  We also carry a stock of lymphedema garments.  All of these items are provided at no-cost to the client. Many are not covered by insurance and it's just one of the ways that we work to reduce the barrier of cost and hopefully stress as well.

Thank you to Barrett & Co. School of Hair Design in Nicholasville for partnering with us in our wig program.  Wigs that are donated are sent to Barrett & Co for cleaning and refurbishing, re-bagged with instructions for care and returned to KCL.

Stories That Matter....
A Kentucky CancerLink navigator received a call from a lady who obtained a brochure about our services. She was in need of her annual mammogram. Our no cost mammogram program was just the option she needed. She had avoided having her mammogram because of the cost and fear of her co-pays and deductibles.

During the intake process, the navigator noticed the lady's voice was very gravelly and low. As part of our intake process, the navigator asked if she was a smoker. She replied yes, and that she was interested in quitting. The navigator told her about the new guidelines established for the low-dose CT lung cancer screening. She was very interested and stated that she would like to see if she would qualified for the screening.

The navigator scheduled her mammogram and confirmed her eligibility to receive a CT lung scan. Within several weeks, the patient received her mammogram and the CT lung scan. Her mammogram was fine but her CT lung scan was not. Patient was diagnosed with lung cancer. Treatment will follow.
