🌾 A Good Harvest Brings Many Benefits 

This season’s bountiful harvest has resulted in a turning point for Shitungu. For the first time the village has the luxury of redirecting funds normally needed to provide basic nutrition towards projects that lead to greater self-sufficiency.

The photos show the community sun drying the maize, tending to recently acquired chickens and the expanding the vertical garden project. These signs of success are due to the hard work, cooperation and ingenuity of the community.  With your help, the village comes closer to ongoing food security and independence.

🧼 Soap Production Expansion

Community members agreed to dedicate the KVEO stipend normally needed to supplement their diets to expanding the soap production enterprise. The modest profits from the sale of soap provides basic income security for the purchase of necessities. Expansion of this business holds great promise.

Standardized molds and other equipment were purchased to increase output and to meet Kenyan production standards.  Safety equipment was wisely purchased-protecting workers from chemical exposure andreducing the risk of accidents.

Expansion of soap production is another bold step towards independence.

📚 Education: A Pathway Out of Poverty 

Education is the seed for lasting change. The third and final semester of the school year is about to begin and many families are still struggling to pull together the funds needed to cover tuition. Families must pay for books, uniforms, and school lunches. Some are still burdened by back tuition owed to the government. There are 46 children in Shitungu ranging from primary to high school.

Help us reach our goal of $425.00 in order to provide minimal tuition assistance for 46 children so that they can complete the school year.
