Empowering Dreams, Building Futures

January 20,2026

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! We begin 2026 with deep gratitude for you and for the care you show the families of Shitungu. Your friendship and steady support continue to encourage us—and, more importantly, the community itself.

Because of your generosity, families in Shitungu are assured of enjoying more than one nutritious meal a day, children are attending school, and daily life feels more secure.

That stability has created the opportunity for villagers to plan for the future. With a bit of breathing room, the villagers have invested wisely—purchasing farm animals to strengthen food security, addressing health care needs and expanding a thriving, community-run soap production business.

These accomplishments bring a sigh of relief and the luxury of being able to think beyond daily survival and plan for tomorrow.

Traditionally a new year is welcomed with a commitment to a few resolutions. KVEO’s resolutions have nothing to do with doing exercise routines or learning to play the guitar. Instead we pledge to learn about the daily life in Shitungu through their art and personal stories and to continue supporting projects that will bring Shitungu closer to self-sufficiency.

Introducing Christine Osimbo

Christine is a wife and mother of 6 children. In addition to the myriad of tasks related to mothering a large family, Christine has a hair salon in the village. She also participates in the community-based soap production and sales, raises a few farm animals and tends to a modest garden. With all of that on her plate, let’s hope that all family members help out with chores!

When asked what is important to her, Christine responded- ‘self-discipline’. This admirable characteristic is evidenced by all of her choices and activities. Christine prefers living in Shitungu to avoid town pollution and be where she can contribute to the work of community groups striving for self-sustainability. Her personal goals are reflected in the communities priorities of attaining food security, education and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Christine is grateful for KVEO’s commitment to work with the families of Shitungu to achieve sustainable incomes.

Christine, KVEO thanks you for letting us to learn more about you, for your hard work, caring nature and modeling good citizenship.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

With gratitude,

Joyce
