The Meaning of Labor Day

On September 5^th, 1882, the Central Labor Union in New York City organized what would become the first recorded Labor Day celebration in history. The Labor Movement of the late 19^th and early 20^th century fought for many of the standards the American workforce enjoys today, such as safe working conditions and the right to form unions. President Grover Cleveland made Labor Day a federal holiday to celebrate the contributions of workers every first Monday of September.

The Johnson County Bicentennial History Quest is in Full Swing

To celebrate 200 years of Johnson County history, CommUnity Matters and the Johnson County Public Library have organized a History Quest Actionbound app and paper version to encourage people to visit historical sites across the county. The History Quest will end on September 30^th and participants will have the chance to win a prize basket.

Kephart Park is Already a Local Favorite in Bargersville

Kephart Park opened in Bargersville this summer and became an instant hit. “Almost every day since we’ve opened the pickleball area, it has been packed with players waiting to get on the court,” said Dan Cartwright, Town Manager of Bargersville. “The splash pad has been busy everyday, and the shelters have been booked too. I can’t say enough about the success of our new park. We’re looking forward to future expansion of the parks and trails in the coming years.”

Member Profile: A Senior Retreat

A Senior Retreat was founded in 2019 to serve community seniors and their family caregivers with the highest standards of care and respect. The owner, Susan Lowe, purposely selected small communities within the rural counties she serves. The three locations are the only adult day centers in the counties they serve to allow seniors to participate in peer activities in their own communities.
