As part of our comparative religion curriculum, we will go to BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir to celebrate Diwali. Celebrated by Hindu, Sikh, and Jain communities around the world, Diwali—the Festival of Lights—is a time of joy, reflection, and renewal. It symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance, inspiring us to illuminate the light within.
We will experience the spirit of Diwali at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir in Chino Hills, California, with cultural experiences, festive attractions, and a tour of the temple. 8th and 9th Grade teens will meet at the AJCC at 3:45 pm on Saturday, November 7, to join the carpool. We plan to return to the AJCC around 9:00 pm. Teens should wear comfortable, respectful clothing, including closed-toe shoes, and bring a lightweight jacket. We will eat at the festival; please have your teen bring $30 for food and souvenirs. This is going to be an incredible cultural experience. In order to bring as many teens as possible, we will need parents to drive and chaperone. Please indicate when you RSVP if you can be of service.

8th and 9th grade will not have class due to the Hindu Field Trip the night before. All 8th and 9th Grade teens are highly encouraged to work as Madrichim all morning.

Family Learning Day - Reproductive Rights Program
Sunday, November 8, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm
We are partnering with Planned Parenthood and NCJW for this very important program. Our program will focus on the Jewish/Reform perspective on reproductive rights, as well as the rights that young people have in California (and beyond). We will also be packing care kits for women who are traveling to California for abortion care. Part of the morning will be spent having teens and parents together; other parts will be separate – with a speaker just for parents. Brunch will be served. Parents are highly encouraged to attend.
