School Board Update: Community Voices For Our Future
The Sun Prairie Area School District Board of Education is responsible for setting the vision and direction of the school district by developing trusting and respectful relationships and encouraging all voices to be heard, especially the community we serve and represent. It is important to us that we initiate and maintain effective constructive two-way communication and feedback with our careholders and engage them in the work of the Board and the district. To better fulfill this promise, the board has voted to create Community Voices for Our Future. This group will help our board members gain a better understanding of the expectations and perspectives of the diverse community we serve.

Meetings will take place approximately 3-4 times a year for up to two hours at a time. The focus will be on high-level board policy work and the future direction of the district. For example, we will ask questions such as, "Five years from now, what results would show that SPASD has made satisfactory progress?" Or "What stories of partnership and collaboration will this community tell each other in five years of amazing support to our students and families?" We will only discuss day-to-day operational issues that fall within the role of the school board, such as bus routes or curriculum decisions.

We are looking for collaborative and future-focused community members who will engage in constructive conversations with our school board members and work toward solutions and partnerships in supporting our students and families. We intend to form the most diverse group possible, and we highly encourage the participation of people who have yet to work closely with the district in the past. Applications are due Saturday, January 14, 2023.
You Asked, and We Have Answers
Question: Why are the Sun Prairie West High School parking lots challenging to navigate?

Answer: The parking lots are designed with the school day in mind. For safety purposes, they allow separation between pedestrian traffic, parent dropoff, student parking, staff parking, and bus traffic. We will reexamine the signage to see how that can be improved to make it a better experience.

Question: When will the demolition of Prairie Phoenix Academy begin?

Answer: The site is being prepared now, and over the next few months, we will see the demolition of the building. Watch our Facebook page for photo updates.

Question: Have there been any updates on the 10/7/22 staff member Investigation?

Answer: At the end of November, the School Board took action to accept the resignation of this staff member. For more detailed information on this reasoning and to see the update sent to our families, check out the webpage.
School Board Meeting Content
School Board meetings are rich with content. In preparation for meetings, our administrators often create screencasts explaining a topic or sharing results related to Operating Expectations. We keep a playlist on Youtube featuring all of these screencasts. We hope you will browse the list and watch the short videos to keep informed. We promise you will learn about some pretty great stuff happening in our district.
