Over 300 people attended the keynote address at Skokie's Boomers and Beyond fair where I spoke about advanced cartilage treatments!
This talk was focused on tactics and treatments to try to avoid joint replacement surgery. The hour long talk focused on minimally invasive tactics such as:
- Bracing, Physical Therapy, and Medications
- "Micro-fracture" (using your own bone marrow cells to cover cartilage joint defects)
- Fresh cartilage transplant from your own body or from a recently expired young donor
- Growing your own cartilage in a lab and implanting it back into your joint (Autologous chondrocyte implantation)
There are many options to explore and consider when discussing cartilage defects in the knee or any other joint.
It is always our goal to have patients be educated and aware of the pros and cons of any treatment.
