Last year, Keys to Literacy decided that it was time to offer a program for phonemic awareness and phonics instruction in the primary grades. We knew it had to be up to the quality, high standards that educators have come to expect from Keys to Literacy. That is why we chose  Letterland!
What are phonemic awareness and phonics?
As noted in the National Reading Panel report (2000), research establishes that phonemic awareness and phonics are essential components of beginning reading instruction.

Special Cancer Project by Key's Trainer 
We are proud to announce a project that our trainer, Maureen Murgo, has been busy developing outside her KTL work. Please visit and share Maureen's new blog "Cancer Thrivers: Empowering Families With Cancer." Maureen provides resource links and blog posts about her own experience with her two girls as she battled and survived cancer.
New PD Topic
We have recently piloted a new day of literacy training titled "Critical Thinking & Rigorous Discussion." Teachers learn instructional suggestions for helping students become more critical thinkers through collaborative discussion. Contact us if you are interested in this new training!

The Reading Rockets October newsletter is full of suggestions and resources for teaching vocabulary .
Check out this Cult of Pedagogy blog post and pod cast about explicit instruction for teaching students to write from sources. The suggestions are aligned with KTL writing instruction!
