Two seniors named National Merit finalists
Congratulations to Aidan and Eric, who are named National Merit Finalists.

They were among the 15,000 finalists of the approximately 1.5 million students who entered the competition last year by taking the PSAT.

As Finalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program, they are eligible to compete for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million.

Great job!
A note about next week's weather

Next week is forecast record low temperatures in the single digits in the mornings. We would like to ask you to please bundle up your younger children, and remind your older children to dress warmly.
French students celebrate La Chandeleur with crêpes
This is one way to make learning fun and memorable.

Madame Bolskakova reports that students of French 1 and French 3 had a lot of fun celebrating La Chandeleur earlier in the month.

Middle schoolers learn how to propagate native plants
Middle School science students in Mrs. Sobieszczyk's class spent time this week learning how to propagate native plants.

A representative from The Nectar Bar, a landscaping company that specializes in designing and installing native pollinator gardens, came to help the students. The plants that the students were working on will be used on campus, and to share.

Ms. Sobie notes that native plants are not only water savers, in that they don't need extra watering once established, but they are also important habitat for native birds and insects.
Toya Bell ’83 visits with 4th Grade Leadership
Alum Toya Bell ’83 visited with members of 4th Grade Leadership this week and shared lessons about being leaders using examples from Black history.

Ms. Bell, who now works as an attorney in Austin, was a Keystone lifer who worked on the yearbook staff and performed in plays when she attended school here. From Keystone, she went to Rice for undergrad and then earned her law degree at the College of William & Mary.

Students, faculty receive Valentine goodies
Here are a couple of tasty Valentine's surprises:

Students on campus received a pair of handmade French macarons from the Kneaded Cupboard, the baking company of Keystone Parent Rose Parham. The delicious goodies were sponsored by Sushma Goyal, proud Keystone grandmother to third-grader Nina.

Meanwhile, faculty members received a cheesecake in a jar, a fudge pop and beads from PTO to celebrate Valentine's Day and Mardi Gras.

Lots of love, happiness and sugar on this Valentine's weekend!
Little School celebrates 100th Day
One of the most beloved traditions at the Little School recently took place, with marking 100 Days of School.

The little Cobras did lots of activities marking the day -- counting by 10s, sorting 100 items, making hats with 100 on them, and more.

“Balance provides the chance for longevity. You can be a champion at work and at home.”
–Tony Dungy

Last Friday night offered a joyful opportunity to watch our boys basketball team compete with heart and courage against another team; following the game, we recognized the four seniors who played in their final home game. (Even if all of us fans sat six feet apart from each other, and our masks muffled our cheers, it still felt good to root for the team.) Earlier in the week, I was able to sit in on Lower and Middle school music classes, and watch children engage in spirited play on the sports court and the playground. (Although we support the students who remain in distance learning, we miss seeing them on campus!)

As I observed the students happily at play, I also considered how we adults teach children to experience balanced lives.
