Special Note: This is the final Communiqué of the regular school year. A special edition that includes Senior Graduation and Lower School end of the year ceremonies will go out on June 1.
8th graders look toward next year
Heading into the final week of the school year, the 8th graders celebrated the end of their years in Middle School, with their parents coming to mark the occasion with them.

Most of our 8th graders will move on to the Upper School, while a few will go to other schools.

Students delivered reflections on their middle school years, reading from works that they had crafted with the help of English teacher Mrs. Tyroff. Also, the event included a few musical performances from students.

Preschoolers celebrate moving to kindergarten
This year, our preschoolers were able to celebrate the end of their time at the Little School with a ceremony, diplomas, a parade around their campus and more than a few tears.

6th graders create Fantasy Islands
For the 6th graders’ final Geography project of the year, they created their own Fantasy Islands.

Their teacher, Mrs. Rardon, divided them into groups. Each group created a fictional island, and decided its location, topography, size, history, language, native plants and animals and a political system.

5th graders rocking on rollercoaster project
The rollercoaster project is a highlight of 5th grade, that deftly combines math and science into a fun activity.

If you're the parent of a 5th grader, ask the student to explain how fast the roller coaster goes and -- notes science teacher Mrs. Sobieszczyk -- why it is slower than a chicken?
GEMUN team excels at online conference
Like many other events, this year’s GEMUN took place online. So Keystone’s team still dressed up in business attire and took their talents to the virtual world.

The secretary of this year’s team, eighth-grader Julia, explained the activities:

Shark Tank ends this year’s run with a nearly full classroom
For the first time this year, middle schoolers were able to do a version of the campus Shark Tank that was closer to the pre-pandemic versions.

In this project, students get together in small groups and use their newly acquired skills in the Office suite of products to pitch a product to a group of Sharks.

For this round, the sharks were Mrs. Luckie, Mrs. Banks, Ms. Ciment, and Mrs. Villafranca.

In previous versions this year, students had to do them in small groups to maintain 6-foot distancing. This time, the 3-foot distancing allowed more students to sit in the room together with the presenters and the sharks.
Vaccination availability around San Antonio

More organizations are offering the COVID-19 vaccination, if you’re interested in it for your child or for yourself. At all the sites, a minor receiving a vaccine must be accompanied by an adult.

Billy's Blog - From our Head of School
For this week's blog, we are reprinting Mr. Handmaker's letter to parents reflecting on the past year and looking ahead to the coming school year.

Dear Parents,

As we head toward the end of the school year, graduation and a well-deserved summer break, I’d like to take a moment to look back at this unforgettable year and look ahead at what school will look like in the coming year. In the same way we ask our students to assess themselves critically, evaluate what they’ve done well, and seek out areas for improvement, we are doing the same.

Our goals
When we restructured our operations last year to educate children during a pandemic, we focused on five goals we believed were fundamental to our school community:
