Gary's back!
Yes, we'll always be the Cobras, but our unofficial mascot is Gary, the cat.

He left late last school year, because his owner took him to New Mexico for a few months. Now the owner has returned to San Antonio -- and Gary is back on campus! Tell him hello if you see him.
Ninth-grader named one of nation's top young scientists
Ninth-grader Alex was named as one of the nation's best young scientists this week. The Broadcom Foundation and Society for Science & the Public today announced the top 300 students in the annual  Top 300 Broadcom MASTERS competition .

Seventh-grader contributing poems to accompany paintings
Seventh-grader Aarav will present original poems to accompany paintings from a local artist at a show next week.

It started over the summer, when poet and painter  Linda Simone  approached Aarav and asked him to collaborate with her on a show. 

Senior excels at national pentathlon competition
One of our seniors is a national champion in Modern Pentathlon.

At the US Modern Pentathlon National Championships over the summer, Ingrid won the gold medal in the Youth Division (under 19) and the bronze medal in the Junior Division (under 22).

Sometimes, even when you know you are doing the right thing, a little outside validation helps ... Out of 18,000 secondary schools worldwide, 685 schools were recognized for “attaining female student representation in AP Computer Science A for 2018.”According to the letter, “this honor acknowledges the amazing work your school is doing to engage more female students in computer science.”

College Visits

For the week of Sept. 9-13, representatives will be on campus from: Air Force ROTC, Amherst College, Austin College, Babson College, Boston University, Brown University, Carleton College, Case Western Reserve University, Denison University, Haverford College, Louisiana State University, Olin College of Engineering, University of Rochester, University of San Francisco, Skidmore College and Vassar College.

Upper School Parent Coffee - Sept. 10

Upper School Parents: Please come to a coffee from 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Sept. 10 in the Lower School Library.

There's no specific program -- just a time to come and mingle.
Coffee for 5th Grade Parents - Sept. 11

Dr. Wivagg and members of the 5th grade team will host parents in the Cafeteria for coffee, pastries and an informal conversation to discuss the transition from Lower to Middle School.

The coffee runs from 8:30-9:15 a.m. on Sept. 11.
Ice Cream sale - Sept. 12
Students from the Senior Class are presenting an ice cream sale on Sept. 12 for Middle and Upper School students during their respective lunch periods.

Since this is a fundraiser, Cafeteria Services funds cannot be used to purchase fundraiser ice cream.

Paying for College Night - Oct 2

All Upper School parents are invited to attend a session on paying for college on Oct. 2 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Theater.

Christina Pikla, Director of Financial Aid at Trinity University, will be our guest speaker again this year. The program will include an overview of financial aid, both merit and need-based, the application process for aid, advice for families, and Q &A. We’ve decided to offer this program every year due to the importance of understanding the financial aid process when applying to college.
