Kitty Donohoe - September 21, 2018
Ann Arbor based songwriter and Michigan Emmy recipient Kitty Donohoe is not an Irish or Celtic singer, but she clearly draws from that part of her heritage, as well as her American roots, as an artist. Iconic WFMT-Chicago folk dj Rich Warren calls Kitty "far above and beyond most singersongwriters." She writes music that has been called "earthy, luminous and compelling" (The Weekender) and she's been praised in the press equally for her voice, her musicality, and her songwriting. Sing Out!, one of the oldest and most respected folk music magazines in the industry, says that Kitty is " one of the rare singer-songwriters to sensuously weave words and melody into a strong and mezmerizing fabric."
Over the years Kitty has opened for a variety of artists, from Doc Watson to David Bromberg, from Bruce Cockburn to Cheryl Wheeler - and in 2008 she and sideman David Mosher took the stage at an Obama rally just before Bruce Springsteen. Already known for years for her songwriting, Kitty's visibility escalated to a much bigger world when she wrote a song called 'There Are No Words' on September 11, 2001. In addition to the Emmy Kitty received for the song, it's been featured in a documentary, which led to her singing it live at the Dedication of the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial in 2008 - an experience that she calls "profound."

Kitty Donohoe - All For the Song |
Growing up in a large, creative family outside of Detroit, Kitty started 'making up songs' and playing the piano at a young age, then graduated to the guitar in high school, when she began going to coffeehouses and open mic nights, bringing the guitar and her own songs. When she became involved in Irish music Kitty bought a cittern (a large mandolin), and she still primarily plays guitar, cittern and piano. Kitty is a solid solo performer, and also often brings multi-instrumentalist David Mosher to her concerts, where he backs her up with guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and vocals. And although some of her originals may sound like they were written 100 years ago and others are clearly contemporary, one thing is certain: with or without a band behind her, Kitty's striking voice carries it all, delivering each song with power and emotion.
Never a traditional music purist, Kitty has been integrating trad instrumentation into her original music - even bluesy or torchy songs - since her first album, 'Farmer in Florida', recorded in 1986. She's been often cited by reviewers with having the "ability to merge instinctive pop sensibilities with a solidly traditional base" All Music Guide. On her most recent album 'Northern Border', for instance, Kitty's song 'Kid with a Gun', clearly having a very current theme, opens with haunting uilleann (Irish) pipes, which also weave throughout the dark lyrics and melody. Or in 'Come on Girls,' where the melody dives into the traditional fiddle tune 'Tar Road to Sligo', then comes back out to finish the song. Of that approach to writing and recording Kitty says "I don't really think about it all that much. It just comes through like that and it makes sense to me musically."
Kitty has just released her latest CD, The Irishman's Daughter.

The Delta Twins with Four Block Empire - September 22, 2018
Delta Twins is a four-man blues/rock/soul band that is known around southeast Michigan for their soulful vocals, passionate guitar solos, and poignant original lyrics that explore and celebrate the human condition. Songs like Work My Blues Away and Workingman pay homage to the hard-working blue collar ethic for which Detroit is known. Stirring Up The Muddy Waters melds blues, rock, and jazz into a tantalizing stew, while songs like Fool For You will leave you breathless.
Though Delta Twins sound is broader than just the blues genre, they have been a finalist in the Detroit Blues Challenge, as well as a nominee for Outstanding Blues Artist in the Detroit Music Awards. Several of their songs have also won songwriting competitions.
Lead singer Bob Young digs deep and lets lyrics fly with a salt of the Earth gusto that is as true as the music hes playing. (Heath Andrews, album review). He also handles keys and occasionally wails on harmonica. His twin brother of another mother Tom Kozanecki provides a steady rhythmic anchor as he locks in on bass with rock-solid drummer Doug Austin. Veteran guitarist Terry Birkett brings both the tasteful ambiance and the scorching fire. Delta Twins will take you on a wild musical journey and bring you back home safely but different better.
Delta Twins is currently working on their fifth album. Delta Twins released their most recent album - Nothing Left But Hope - on Fri Sep 19, 2014 at Trinity House Theatre in Livonia, Nothing Left But Hope is an engaging collection of a dozen blues, rock, soul, funk originals recorded live and enhanced in the studio to create an amazing experience: individual songs that sound great and have that live energy, but a unified collection that takes you on a great sonic journey (especially in headphones).
As a 4 piece, "4BE" has performed to many festivals, breweries and various live music venues in the mid west since 2010. Our first record "Time and Miles" was released in June of 2014. Audiences are always blown away by the variety of our originals and the tightness of the band. The original material draws from Blues, Jazz, Funk, Jam Band, Classic, Modern and Progressive Rock influences. Covers include The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Beck, Flaming Lips, Phish, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd and many more.

Claude Bourbon - September 28, 2018
Ready for a unique and talented take on a wide range of musical traditions? Claude Bourbon is known throughout Europe and America for amazing guitar performances that take blues, Spanish, and Middle Eastern stylings into uncharted territories.
Claudes inimitable style incorporates all five digits on each hand dancing independently but in unison, plucking, picking and strumming at such speed and precision that his fingers often seem to melt into a blur. Thousands of people in the UK, Europe and USA have enjoyed listening to this virtuoso and for the majority of his audience it is an experience that compels them to return again and again to hear and watch him play, as his fingers lightly dance over the strings of his guitar and create a unique sound that is Claude.
It is very hard to describe the almost endless amalgam of different influences in Claude's playing, all melting into each other, as he moves from classical openings, across a whole continent of cultural roots, from the Balearics to the Balkans, and then across to the Mississippi Delta, and shoehorned into all that is music that would not have been out of place in the courts of Emperors and Kings.
Claude Bourbon weaved his songs through the audience as if on a journey through life taking in different flavours of Europe and beyond. His Spanish medieval blues evolved into Gypsy, Eastern European, with a splash of Paco de Lucia, Delta Blues and more. Holding audience attention under a musical spell.
It's not easy to begin to describe the breadth or mastery of the music you will hear if you are fortunate to catch one of Claudes gigs, it is a sort of sensory experience like no other. A top master of his craft and never appearing to be rushed, he has impeccable timing and makes things that one can only marvel at seem simple.
Now based in the UK, some of this guitarists influences allow us a fascinating insight into this remarkable musician; Paco De Lucia: Deep Purples Richie Blackmore; Joaquin Rodrigo; JJ Cale; JS Bach.
Claude has played countless venues, including Glastonbury Festival, Isle of Wight Festival, Colne Great British & Blues Festival, Rock O'Z Arene, Avenches, Switzerland, among others. He has shared the stage in Europe and the USA with countless musicians, Calvin Russel, Charlie Morgan (Elton John, Gary Moore), Jan Akkerman (Focus), Steve Grossman (Miles Davis), Herbie Armstrong ( Van Morisson), Jose barrense Dias and many more.
