NENSA Welcomes Bag Balm
As Our Newest Sponsor!
The New England Nordic Ski Association (NENSA) is very pleased and excited to welcome Bag Balm, of Lyndonville VT into the NENSA sponsor family, and to announce the official naming of the “2018 NENSA Bag Balm Rollerski Series”.

NENSA is first and foremost a community rooted in New England’s rich and vibrant heritage of ski culture and we couldn’t be happier about bringing another New England company into that community. Since 1899, Bag Balm has been made in Vermont out of four simple ingredients and it stands the test of time as an incredibly versatile and long lasting moisturizer. Originally created for cows with dry and cracked udders, it has grown into a cult favorite among skiers and others who enjoy the outdoors for treating chapped lips, cracked hands, and more.

Preston Noon is NENSA & USBA's
New Operations Manager!
NENSA & USBA are thrilled to welcome Preston Noon to our teams, as the new Operations Manager for our New Gloucester Maine office. He will be responsible for the oversight of our membership and systems operations, including the management and technical support of all software tools, social media platforms and Websites. Preston will be the new office presence and office administration for both NENSA and USBA, as well as collaborating with staff on our many projects and events.

Preston is a true Mainer through and through. He was born and raised in Springvale, Maine on a sheep farm. He learned to ski as soon as he could to walk and would ski loops around the farm to ward off coyotes. He also loves the Elk Mountain backcountry outside Aspen Colorado. After high school, Preston went to University of Maine where he ran both Cross Country and Track. In between undergrad and graduate school, Preston built a cabin in the back woods of Maine where he still goes to relax, light a fire, and read. He graduated with a Masters from NYC in Interactive Telecommunications which lead him to teaching in the Visual and Performing Arts department at Bennington college. During that time he met his wife (also from Maine) and moved to Manhattan, where he worked at Newsweek, Nature, and the New York Times. Preston lives in Freeport now with his wife and their twins, Evelyn and Tucker. He is thrilled to begin this journey with NENSA & USBA.
Congrats to Bob Haydock, the 2018 NENSA John Caldwell Award Receipent
One of NENSA’s finest traditions is the awarding of the John Caldwell Award. This award annually recognizes a single individual, or entity, which embodies the spirit, dedication, innovation and pride in our Nordic community of the award’s famous namesake. This year NENSA is thrilled to award this highest honor to Bob Haydock, a NENSA founding member, board member for the past 23 years, Bogburn Race creator, and a coach, among many other talents.

Bob, like John Caldwell himself, has quietly and selflessly dedicated himself to our beloved sport of cross country skiing. Legend has it that Bob was JC’s inside man when the “revolution began” when NENSA was formed out of the remnants of the USSA Eastern Division back in the early 90’s. Bob went to all the “Eastern Junior Committee” meetings, and that’s where the idea for NENSA was born, and then started in 1995. Bob was on the original NENSA Board of Directors, and he continues to be an active and vital member on our BOD today. Bob set up the first web page for NENSA. He also created the first system of displaying points and rankings, and scored the Zak Cup and Club contest.

SafeSport Programs
SafeSport is a national organization that provides an on-line training course (it takes about 90 minutes to complete) to ensure all coaches, volunteers or persons in authority working with youth athletes are educated on the subject of abuse (emotional and physical) in sports. Keeping our athletes safe is first and foremost on the agenda for all sport national governing bodies, including US Ski & Snowboard, and now it is federal law. This is to ensure that all athletes are protected, and coaches and volunteers are educated.

NENSA has always urged ALL New England coaches, parent volunteers, venue volunteers and anyone working with youth to take the SafeSport on-line course and get certified. NENSA has been requiring this of all our staff and volunteer coaches and wax techs at JN's and REG Camps for several years now. So please take time this summer to be sure all your club volunteers and coaches are SafeSport certified. Do it today.

The USOC provides a wide range of SafeSport resources, including  online education and awareness . All coaches and those in a position of authority over athletes are required to take the online SafeSport course. To create an account with SafeSport, please use the following access code and follow the instructions on the SafeSport registration page.
Go to usskiandsnowboard.org , scrool down to the bottom of the home page, and under Governance, click on the SafeSport link.
