Greetings NENSA Community!

This past week has been packed with so many fun events all over New England and more historic accomplishments abroad from our World Juniors Men's Team. And today we mark the start of the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang South Korea, and the very real possilbity of more history being made! The next 16 days are going to be such fun! #zerodaystoPyeongchang ~ we have arrived!

Our US Olympic Cross Country Ski Team starts racing this Saturday 2/10 with the women's Skiathlon and Sunday 2/11 with the men's Skiathlon. Click HERE for full info on how to watch our team over the next 16 days!

This past weekend included three days of racing at the the Stowe Eastern Cup/UVM Carnival, including a Zak Cup race, held in Craftsbury Vermont. See box below for reports, photos, and links to results. There were also numerous fun BLK races held in Vermont and New Hampshire. Our youngest NENSA members are getting ready for the New England BKL Festival to be held at the Leo J. Martin Ski Track in Weston MA, just outside of Boston on 2/17 & 2/18. The organizers are busy getting ready and doing an amazing job creating a really special event for our BKL members! Registration is open on SkiReg.com .

This weekend brings the final weekend of Eastern Cup racing. Day one will be in Hanover NH at Oak Hill, combined with the Dartmouth Winter Carnival, and day two will be held at the Holderness School in NH. Please go to the Virtual Team Captain's Meeting (VTCM) page on NENSA.net for all the latest updates. At the end of the racing on Sunday, we will be naming our U16 JN Team (U18 & U20's to be named soon after) as well as recognizing our top 10 male and top 10 female EC racers. There will be a fun raffle (based on your bib # Sunday) for all racers, and an informational meeting and meet & greet for the potential JN Team. Here is the link to our 2018 JN Info Packet .

There are always so many great events going on this time of the year - be sure to check out our full calendar listing below, and get out and join in the winter fun! How about jumping into the Bretton Woods Marathon, the Mt. Washington Cup race, the Barkeater Hurtathon, Blackwater BKL race, or a Woman's Clinic at Waterville this weekend? I hope to see you out on a snowy trail soon!

Best,
Amie

First Ever Junior Worlds Medal for Men Included Vermont's Ben Ogden
The USA wrapped up its most successful week ever at the FIS Junior Nordic World Championships with the men taking silver in the closing relay. Luke Jager (Anchorage/Alaska Pacific Nordic Ski Center), Ben Ogden (Landgrove, VT/Stratton Mountain School), Hunter Wondes (Anchorage/Alaska Pacific Nordic Ski Center) and Gus Schumacher (Anchorage/Alaska Winter Stars) combined to finish second in the relay. The USA was just two seconds from gold. It gave the USA three medals on the week along with Hailey Swirbul’s (Carbondale, CO/UAA) silver and bronze in individual events.
Another New England Cross Country Athlete Headed to Pyeongchang!
New Englander Dan Cnossen will be competing in the ParaOlympic Games in Pyeongchang later this month. We are so proud of Dan, and so happy he joined us last weekend in Craftsbury for some race training before heading over to South Korea. Dan is pictured here with Carol Van Dyke, Stowe Nordic race organizer, and NENSA Board President. Good Luck Dan - we will all be rooting for you!
