Director's Corner

January 2022

Betty White and Uggie

Hello Lisa,

We're kicking off 2022 with a little bit of everything, from a new foster resource to a marketing survey and a grant opportunity to study senior dogs' health.

As always, we'd love to hear about your innovative programs! Please share your experiences on our Grantee Facebook Group page and feel free to reach out to me if you'd like to be featured in a future Director's Corner. Thanks for all you do to make life better for senior dogs. The more we can learn from one another, the more we can help senior dogs.

4 Minutes To Shape the Future of Animal Welfare Marketing

Grey Muzzle grantee HeARTs Speak needs our help! Please take a few minutes to complete this survey on marketing and communications at your organization. The information will help HeARTs Speak develop new (free!) resources and tools to promote your work on behalf of animals in need.

Multiple people from the same organization are welcome to take the survey. HeARTs Speak plans to share insights from the survey publicly in March.

Grant Opportunity for Senior Dog Research

We were thrilled to see this new grant opportunity! Starting February 2, the Morris Animal Foundation is seeking applicants for its Mark L. Morris Jr. Investigator Award. The award provides funding of up to $200,000 per year for up to three years.

Senior dog health is the focus of this year’s award. Suggested research topics include nutrition, cognitive decline, mobility, owner and veterinarian awareness of specific needs, and end-of-life care.

Grantee Spotlight: Knox PAWS

Knox PAWS (Placing Animals with Seniors) is a program of the Office on Aging in Knoxville, Tennessee. Since 2004, Knox PAWS has matched eligible seniors with adoptable older pets from local animal shelters.

Knox PAWS' Grey Muzzle grant will support at least 12 new senior dog placements this year, covering the costs of the adoption and veterinary visits for participants, including dental work, laboratory diagnostics, and preventative care.

Human senior participants don't have to worry about providing anything but love to their senior furry friends.

Lean More

If your organization has a clever spin on a lifesaving program for senior dogs or is currently running a fresh take on a program and you are seeing great results, please post any ideas/acclaims to the Facebook page.
