September 2022

Thanking God for All of You

Dear WOV Partners and Friends,

What a good summer we had with two great book discussions in June and July and then a wonderful "Share the Light" event in August. We are now in September and heading toward the end of this fiscal year! Because of people like you, we exceeded our 2022 goal of $300,000! Donations have continued to come in, and we have raised over $302,000 to support our projects in Kenya, Honduras, and the Syrian crisis impact area.

We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers.

We continually remember before our God and Father

your work produced by faith,

your labor prompted by love,

and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

I Thessalonians 1:2-3

As October 1 arrives, we will start our new fiscal year. Our leadership team has voted to increase our yearly goal to $330,000 for our three projects. Kenya Big Dream will continue to focus on preventing child marriage and FGM and keeping girls in school. Our focus in Honduras is shifting to support World Vision's Christian Discipleship program—we will support this program in Nicaragua, Guatemala, and El Salvador as well. And we will continue to support Syrian refugees under the broader umbrella of Global Emergency Response, so we can reach out to those in the world who are suffering from both short- and long-term challenging emergencies, as needed.

Gatherings are being planned for the 2023 year that you won't want to miss. Make sure this first one is on your calendar:

The Women of Vision Fall Kick-Off is set for Saturday, October 8th, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Come to an energetic morning of information, sharing, and fellowship! Hear from our National Women of Vision Director, Cindy Mesko, and our new Focus Teams and see if there’s one you’d like to join this year. Don't miss out! (See more details below.)

Then join us for our Annual Kick-Off on Saturday morning, October 8th!

The event is free and open to women only, please.

World Vision Global Day of Prayer

Every year, at this time, World Vision holds a day of prayer with everyone in the organization around the world. They take the day to pray for all of their projects and staff, for each other, and for us. September 30 will be the Day of Prayer this year. The normal work will stop and all will gather to pray.

World Vision knows that working with God to help others requires a relationship with Him. And relationships need at least two parties who communicate and share with each other. And so God invites us to pray to Him and with Him. Our personal prayers are foundational to our faith. However, we should never discount the power of God’s people gathering together to pray.

“Group prayer knits believers together and encourages the burdened. When a group of believers prays together, the result is unity, humility, thanksgiving, confession of sin, intercession, and discovery of God’s will.” (online source: "Got Questions")

So, with that in mind, I would like to invite you to also take some time on the 30th to pray—for World Vision and its work but also for the things near to our hearts in our own lives. For those who would like to gather in person, I'd like to welcome you to my Oregon City home on the 30th from 10 to 11 a.m. When you let me know you're coming, I will send you my address. You may call, text, or email. Also, for those who can't attend, please send any personal or general prayer requests ahead of time (or during that time), and the group will pray for you.

“We never know how God will answer our prayers, but we can expect that He will get us involved in His plan for the answer. If we are true intercessors, we must be ready to take part in God’s work on behalf of the people for whom we pray.” Corrie Ten Boom
