The MNC 2026 Environmental Corps Crew six-week summer program is underway. 12 corps members, selected from 81 applicants, will be working with MNC Supervisor Tarquin Gaines and Crew Leader Tatiana Pineda with operational guidance from Emily Chu.

After HR onboarding the new team had lunch with MNC CEO, Richard Ybarra, where they asked questions and learned more about MNC's mission, its culture and history. The crew members shared a little about themselves and what they are looking for in the program. They received MNC gear, including backpacks, hats, and shirts to show off team spirit. The crew then spent the remainder of the afternoon in briefings and icebreakers to get to know each other before they start their first field day!

The first days of work were at Lake Merced with SF Recreation and Parks, the Presidio with National Park Conservancy and College Hill Learning Garden with the SF Public Utilities Commission.

In the Tigers Classroom at MNC Valencia Campus, our Water Study inspired weeks of curiosity, discovery, and conversations. A children’s favorite science exploration was watching colored water travel through paper towels. As they observed the colors slowly spread and blend together, they made predictions, shared observations, and discovered how water can move through different materials.

The children shared ideas like "Plants need water to grow", "Animals need clean water too", and "We have to keep the Earth clean, so the water stays clean." These conversations reflected their growing awareness that water connects all living things and that everyone has a role in protecting it.

To celebrate, the Tigers proudly recited their Water Heroes Promise pledging to turn off the faucet while brushing their teeth, use only the water they need during play, and help keep water clean and safe for people, plants, and animals.
