Much has been written and said of the year 2020, so I’ll spare you all of the oft repeated rhetoric. What I know about 2021 is that we will start the year much like the way we ended the last, and dive right into issues we know need our attention.

It is no coincidence that our Annual Dinner Committee wanted to feature speakers that would hit important topics head on. United States Senator Cory Booker will offer pointed comments about race relations in our country and describe ways business and government leaders can begin to right many wrongs. Kristen Welker, the White House Correspondent for NBC News, will speak to why it is important for a spirited and thriving nation to have a free and independent press. James Glassman, the foremost economist from J.P. Morgan Chase, will give context to where we are, where we are headed and what our economic future holds. And William Kristol, who’s resume includes senior posts on the Reagan and the Bush White House staffs, will give insight into what he believes the President-elect needs to address in his first few months in office, and what the Republican Party needs to do in the post-Donald Trump era.

November construction spending figures were released earlier today, and remarks from Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester are scheduled for 6:00 pm. On Tuesday afternoon, Chicago Fed President Charles Evans offers his thoughts about where the economy is headed. The December ADP employment report is out Wednesday morning, along with November factory orders data. Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker speaks Thursday morning, and trade deficit numbers are public that day too. We close a busy first week of 2021 on Friday with December unemployment figures and November consumer credit spending.
