Slim People,

Someone broke into Slim's Shady Trailer Park and stole my dictionary.

I can't find the words right now to describe how I feel.

Slim Folks,

The Kickstarter campaign for the I Got You Babe novel and soundtrack ends Friday at noon.

If you've been pacing the linoleum wondering when to kick in, now would be a good time. Only two days left!

Here's a video that describes the whole Kickstarter thing:

Kickstarter is basically a way for you to preorder the book and album. You're not just giving me money!

Although I certainly don't want to discourage anyone from doing that.

For instance, if you want a signed copy of the paperback, you pledge $25 and you get a signed copy before anybody else.

Pledges start at $10 for the eBook, and go all the way up to $5000.

Five grand? What do you got for a 5G pledge?

Well...I will hand deliver the book, CD, and pink vinyl album anywhere in the USA. Anywhere!

If you live in Monkey's Eyebrow, Kentucky?

I'll swing by!

Ding Dong, Texas?

Make sure you answer the doorbell when I ring!

Intercourse, Pennsylvania?

I'll effing be there!

You may be asking yourself...has Uncle Slimmy ever done this before?

Yes, he has!

Settle in, SlimStones. Let me tell you a little story...

Many moons ago, I was getting off a flight in Reno, Nevada, for a Slim Show when my shoe phone rang.

I answered and a guy told me it was his wife Lorraine's birthday. He apologized for bothering me and then asked if there was any way I could sing Sweet Lorraine to her.

Sweet Lorraine is one of my favorite Nat King Cole songs.

And any guy who loves his wife that much to call me out of the blue with a request like that gets my nod of approval. It's all about love!

He texted me her number. I called, introduced myself and then sang Sweet Lorraine.

She started crying.

I didn't think I sounded that bad!

Lorraine was really touched. She couldn't thank me enough. It made me feel good to make her feel good.

I got off the plane and went to the casino in Reno for the Slim Show.

I was feeling pretty Slimsational that weekend because I had just finished mixing the new Bona Fide 4 album in Madrid with my true-blue amigo Marc Antoine.

Well, Marc was doing most of the mixing.

I was noodling on a note pad on a couch in the corner.

I had this idea for a font for Bona Fide. I wanted the letters to be silhouettes of people...with no clothes on. That's right. Naked people!

That was my brilliant idea. I started with a sketch of the letter "F."

I figured that was the easiest letter to do. As Marc mixed, I sketched. By the time the CD was done, so was I. I had an artist polish up my drawings and we used them as the front cover.

I put the Bona Fide 4 CD up on Kickstarter to raise some dough to get it out there.

One of the rewards I came up with?

For a couple grand, I would hand deliver the first copy anywhere in the USA. I would jump on a plane, dogsled, kayak, camel and bring the new CD to you.

That reward was one of the first ones taken. Ed in Colorado made the pledge.

When the Bona Fide 4 CD was done, I pulled the first copy out of the box, grabbed my guitar, and got on a plane.

I flew to Denver, rented a car and drove a couple hours until I reached a ranch house, sitting all by itself, with stunning mountain views.

I walked up to the door, guitar and CD in hand. The door opened, and...

I was hoping it wasn't going to be answered by someone like Kathy Bates in the movie Misery.

But no. Quite the opposite! Ed introduced himself, and then he introduced his wife.

Lorraine.

Sweet Lorraine! The woman I sang to on the plane! She had their grandson by her side and I gave them the Bona Fide 4 CD.

And then?

They insisted I stay for a bite. Ed made pizza. Now, when I say he made pizza, he didn't just stick a frozen DiGiorno in the microwave.

No.

Ed had a special pizza oven in back.  It was about the size of an igloo but made of brick. He made his own pizza from scratch and baked it in this massive oven.

The heat was so intense I think Ed might have put on a welding helmet and some of those gloves you use to pick up logs out of the fireplace.  It was so hot my sneakers were melting.

But when Ed pulled that Margherita pizza out of the oven it smelled and looked Slimsational! And it tasted molto delizoso.

We ate, watched football, I played guitar, and it was one of those precious, magical days that I'll never forget. They welcomed me into their home and treated me like royalty. King Slim!

It was a pleasure to get to know them...

Ed was in the military, served in the Middle East, then became a deputy sheriff.

Sweet Lorraine was involved in law enforcement, too.

She and Ed came out to lots of Slim Shows over the years.

Lovely people. Solid folks. We became friends. I just talked to Ed yesterday. A good man, indeed.

And it all started with a song!

That's my Kickstarter story.

Slim Folks, take a gander at the Kickstarter campaign for I Got You Babe. Only two days left!

If you see a reward that resonates, make a pledge.

And I'll see you in Monkey's Eyebrow. I love Kentucky!

It's all about love, Slim People.

Who loves ya?

Uncle Slimmy
