Sensory Play Ideas for Summer

Now that summer is here, we know you're looking for fun and easy ways to keep your kids occupied. Check out our recent blog post with a few quick and simple ideas for sensory play disguised as fun!

Apraxia Stole My Son's Voice

Childhood apraxia of speech is a motor speech disorder - the child knows what he or she wants to say, but the brain is unable to move the body parts needed to say the sounds, syllables, and words needed for speech. May 14 was Apraxia Awareness Day, so we asked one of our Kid's Creek moms to share her thoughts on apraxia and her child.

Welcome to the Kid's Creek Family!

Kid's Creek is thrilled to welcome a new member to the Kid's Creek family!

Meredith Hunt is our new occupational therapist. She received her degree from Augusta University. She discovered her love for OT during college when working at a camp in North Georgia for children with special needs, and has since continued to develop a passion for working with children of all ages. Meredith has experience working with children with autism, Down syndrome, fine motor delay, cerebral palsy, and other diagnoses. Meredith resides in Alpharetta with her husband.

Now Available: Intensive Speech Programs

Kid's Creek Therapy is happy to offer Speech Connections, intensive speech therapy programs for children with childhood apraxia of speech and those with cleft palate. Speech Connections programs are available for both current and new patients, and are a good option for families who live too far away from our office to schedule regular appointments. Learn more about each of these programs below, and  visit our Intensive Program page  for downloadable brochures on each program as well as information for Traveling Families.

Apraxia Intensive Program
Our Apraxia Intensive Program uses evidence-based techniques in an individualized program to elicit correct speech production in children with childhood apraxia of speech. The program  is available in either one- or two-week sessions. All participants will receive a home program and a treatment summary at the completion of the session.

Cleft Palate Intensive Program
Our Cleft Palate Intensive Program uses evidence-based techniques to teach children with cleft palate and/or velopharyngeal dysfunction the correct way to say speech sounds. This program benefits children with repaired and unrepaired clefts, submucous clefts, and palate weakness related to nerve damage. Within group settings, it will give children a chance to interact with peers with similar craniofacial anomalies.  The programs are available in either individual or group format for children of a variety of ages and stages of cleft palate repair.

Call us at 770-888-5221 or inquire at the front desk for more information
about either of our Speech Connections programs.
