Hey, Mom! You're a Super Hero! (But You Don't Have to Be)

You may be one of those people who tries to do it all on your own no matter what, and I get it - some people are wired that way. But the truth is, you just can't do everything all the time and you don't need to!

In this month's featured blog post, Clinic Director (and fellow mom) Melanie McGriff provides five suggestions from her own experience to help you keep your superhero powers intact.

Game Nights Are Back for Fall!

Our popular Kid's Creek Game Nights are back and going on now! Meet new friends, socialize in a low-pressure setting, and learn new games! Improve turn-taking, social regard, and communication skills! The nights are facilitated by Kid's Creek therapists. All knowledge and skill levels welcome. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Friends can join us for individual nights or at one (or both!) of our two six-week sessions available for two different age groups: 12 & up on Thursdays and K-5 on Tuesdays. Click here for the details.
You're Invited to Trunk or Treat!

Kid's Creek kids and their siblings are invited to Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 27 from 10am until noon. Download the flyer for more details.
Get to Know You: Jessica Orlick

In Get to Know You, we ask our staff a few questions to give our families a peek into who they are as people, not simply providers. This month's Get to Know You features
Speech Therapist and Clinical Director Jessica Orlick.

Who is your hero? I am who I am today because of my family. My parents and sisters are incredibly strong, loving, smart and determined individuals that have taught and continue to teach me new things regularly. They encourage me to be the best that I can be, no matter what challenges are presented and how to look for the positive in all situations. I strive to be like them each and every day and hope that I can be the same encouragement to my son as they are to me.

What is your favorite thing about your career? I originally became a Speech Language Pathologist because I saw the importance of communication in all stages of life. I wanted to be able to help kiddos communicate with their world around them and help set their foundational skills to build on for the rest of their life. While I still love that aspect of my job, I was introduced to feeding a few years ago and that holds my heart. Working with kiddos and their families to decrease the stressors around meal time has been incredibly rewarding. I am currently in the process of gaining my IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) and really look forward to helping with mother-baby feeding difficulties, as well.

Have you ever had a nickname? What is it? I played a lot of sports growing up and my friends called me by my last (maiden) name. I also had a friend think my last name sounded like Milano cookies...so she called me "cookie".

Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life? I have been told many times throughout my life that it would make for great reality tv haha! Apparently I am a magnet for odd things/situations...plus both of my parents worked at the same school my sisters and I attended and that just screams "sitcom". I feel like Jennifer Lawrence would really be able to make hilarious facial expressions and funny adlibs. She cracks me up!

If you had to describe yourself as an animal, which one would it be? Maybe a dog? I am extremely loyal, playful, and tend to get along well with others...but would not hesitate to growl/show my teeth if anyone I love is threatened. I am easily distracted (squirrel!), a people pleaser, and my long hair sheds a lot haha! Plus I love snuggling up on the couch.
