Family Mindfulness
Take a deep breath in for a count of four, hold it for a count of four, exhale for a count of four, and hold it for a count of four before inhaling and starting again. This is a box breath, shared with me by Dr. Akhu, LCP. Feel a little better? You should! Breath can be used as a tool to reset your mind and physiology. The simple act of focusing on your breathing can help you to unwind, reset and step away from the worried mind.
Children may also experience stress, worry, agitation, confusion and fear (we’ve blogged about it
before
). Especially now, when their routines have changed, they’re stuck in close quarters, and isolated from their friends and family amid a
global pandemic
. It’s an anxious time for many of us.
According to David Anderson, PhD, a clinical psychologist at the Child Mind Institute, family mindfulness is “Anything that helps everyone take a moment to slow down, stay present, and come together.” During these uncertain times, incorporating mindful practices into your daily routine can help calm anxiety and build
healthy coping skills
.
Below are some mindful activities and resources from our wonderful E-Library and other sites you can visit as a family to promote calmness and keep busy.
Thank you for subscribing and checking out our first issue of
Kid's Scoop from the Swoop.
We'd rather see you in person but will be conducting
programing
remotely
on Zoom.
