Welcome to an early edition of CityBeat. We hope you'll join us tomorrow morning for our Kids' Day and 4th of July Parade celebration. Our parade begins at 9:00 a.m. at Plaza Park, continuing north through the Mission District to Smith Park.

In addition, Caltrans will also be closing the onramps, offramps, the high-occupancy vehicle lanes and the roadway underneath the New Avenue I-10 overpass from July 6 at 10:00 p.m. to July 9 by 5:00 a.m.

Now, here's what's making news for the week of July 3, 2018:
Kids' Day and 4th of July Parade tomorrow morning
Come celebrate Independence Day in San Gabriel with the Kids' Day and 4th of July Parade. The parade begins at 9:00 a.m. at Plaza Park, continuing north through the Mission District to Smith Park. Our parade features community groups, musicians, push floats and families.

Afterwards, please join us at Smith Park for a BBQ, picnic games, community booths, entertainment and more.
Louie Cruz Beltran this Thursday at the Playhouse
Jazz Nights at the Playhouse continues this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. with Louie Cruz Beltran and his jazz ensemble.

A master percussionist that has captivated audiences at the Hollywood Bowl, Mandalay Bay and Dodger Stadium, Beltran is a perennial hit at the Playhouse Plaza. Pez Cantina will also be on hand serving coastal Mexican cuisine.
Summer Nights fun continues July 12 at Vincent Lugo
Our Summer Nights program continues with great concerts and movies. Next Thursday, we're featuring a country concert by Big City Hillbillies. Afterwards, catch a showing of "The Lego Ninjago Movie." The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. at Vincent Lugo Park.

Take note: additional events will take place on Thursdays through August 23. Concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. and movies begin at 8:00 p.m. Click the link below for more information.
San Gabriel welcomes its first Starbucks
Last week, the San Gabriel Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially welcome the City’s first Starbucks.

Located at 303 East Valley Boulevard within the new Sheraton Los Angeles San Gabriel, the new Starbucks is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. For busy commuters, 20-minute parking is also available directly outside.
San Gabriel Police arrest bank robbery suspect
Over the weekend, the San Gabriel Police Department located and arrested a suspect that committed armed bank robbery last week at the local Citibank.

Detectives subsequently served a search warrant at two of his residences and located 21 handguns, 9 rifles, numerous rounds of ammunition and cartridges. The suspect is currently being held at the Alhambra Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
