Former Independent Living Youth Sworn in as Deputy | |
|
(acknowledgment provided by Shalonda McHenry-Sims, Chief of Operations)
We wish to congratulate Jamal P., who was recently sworn in as a deputy in Levy County. He is a former Independent Living youth who aged out and served as one of our original peer mentors.
Jamal worked previously at Lowell Correctional Facility, eventually rising to the position of lieutenant. Kids Central paid for his correction officer's training and certification test. He did not pass the first time, and almost gave up, but I encouraged him to sign up again. Great things are possible when you have people believing in you, and the cycle has officially been broken!
Kids Central is very proud of Jamal, and we join him in celebrating his achievement. We also want to thank Jamal for sharing his story, which serves as a powerful reminder to all KCI employees that their work makes a huge impact on the lives of youth in our system of care.
