Dear Azure,

Kiki, the Great Dane, was recently picked up as a pregnant stray by a Good Samaritan in Fort Smith, Arkansas. And on Christmas Eve, she gave birth to 12 perfect puppies! Kiki has been a wonderful mama and is described as the epitome of a gentle giant, sweet and docile. But Kiki needs our help to raise her 12 babies happily.

Unfortunately, as is common in the south, Kiki has heartworms. If heartworms are left untreated, they could lead to death. Ruff Start Rescue and Best Friends Animal Society are teaming up to get Kiki and her family to Minnesota, so we can get her the treatment she needs.

Due to her size, the cost will be 3-4 times more expensive than an average-sized dog. Between heartworm treatment, food and supplies, and routine vetting for this extra-large family, we’re looking at around $10,000 in estimated expenses to care for them while they’re with RSR.

Kiki’s babies will only be four weeks old when they arrive, and the whole family will go straight to a foster home. We can’t wait to meet Kiki and her pups and help them on their journey to find a family of their own.
