Superintendent Spotlight, Episode 2:
Black History Month at WCS
Melinda McCarty-Stewart, WCS Superintendent

Our next Superintendent Spotlight is Episode 2 - Black History Month at WCS. In February, we recognized and celebrated Black History Month in our schools. This episode offers a peek into our classrooms during the month of February as our teachers and students explored a wide variety of African American historical figures and their lasting impact. Thank you to our District Diversity Committee and WCS staff for their hard work in preparing thoughtful, creative, and engaging activities this month.

If you are looking for ways to continue the learning at home you may find helpful resources and suggestions from Celebrate Black Stories (

Virtual Education provides a unique set of challenges. If your child has been in Virtual Ed this school year and is struggling to stay motivated, you might find some helpful tips in this video from Common Sense Media.

REMINDER: Virtual Ed students who will be returning to the High School for in-person learning for 2021-22, have an important virtual meeting regarding scheduling. Be sure to check the Virtual Ed homepage for all the details!
Kindergarten Registration
WCS Kindergarten - picture of children writing outside
Registration is open for the Class of 2034! If your child will be 5 years old on or before September 30, 2021 then they are eligible for entrance into Kindergarten at Holmes Elementary for the 2021-22 school year. Enrollment begins March 1, 2021.

Registering kindergarten children early is vital to planning for the 2021-2022 school year. Please submit your completed registration packet by May 1.

We may be a little biased, but we think our Kindergarten program is amazing. Our experienced Kindergarten teachers can't wait to meet your child and help them begin their journey at WCS!

Food Service News (Pick-Up Program)
We have 3 pieces of great news from the Food Service Dept at WCS:

  • Weekly meal packs for pick-up (Virtual Ed students and students in quarantine) will now have 7 days of meals instead of 5!
  • Our staff will be coming in to prepare meal packs for pick up during Spring Break Week! In-person learners can also pre-order meals for 3/24 pick-up, since they will not be in school that week. When using the online form do the following:
  • Choose "not attending 0-18 yrs old" for the Education Program
  • Choose pick-up date 3/24/21
  • Remember to place your pick-up order at least one week in advance (by 3/17)

Did you know that if your child is in quarantine or home for COVID-19, they can still get meals from school through our Wednesday Pick-Up program? Just call Jodie Havert at (937)283-7250 or email and let them know you need meals during quarantine/isolation. Pick-ups are Wednesdays from 4-6pm in the WMS horseshoe drive (curbside service!).
Remember: Meals are free to all kids 0-18 years old

Use our Online Order Form or call (937)283-7250 to place your order.
