Kindergarten and New Student Registration for 2023-2024 School Year

Registration for kindergarten and first grade students new to TESD is now available. Information needed for registration will be collected electronically this year. We encourage families to register all the children who plan to enter TESD in grades 2 through 4 at this time as well. Early registration helps the District ensure that the highest quality professional staff can be in place in time to start the next school year.

Children are eligible to attend kindergarten if they have reached the age of five years on or before September 1. Children who have reached the age of six years on or before September 1 will normally be enrolled in first grade.

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE NEEDED FOR REGISTRATION:

  • Official birth certificate with raised seal
  • Verification of immunizations for diphtheria-tetanus, pertussis, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B and varicella, or verification that the child has had chicken pox
  • Two proofs of residency are required in order to complete registration

For more information visit www.tesd.net/kindergarten

Registration will be held virtually for each elementary school. To register, please email the required documents to your child's school at the email address below. If you are not able to send the documents electronically, please contact your child's school to schedule a time for the office staff to copy the documents for you.

PA Youth Survey Results
Since 1989, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has conducted a survey of school students in the 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th grades to learn about their behavior, attitudes and knowledge concerning alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and violence. In T/E, grade 6 families must opt their child into participation.

The Pennsylvania Youth Survey, or PAYS, is sponsored and conducted every two years by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

Half-Day for TESD Emergency Preparedness Exercises

As part of our ongoing safety practices, TESD will be conducting a series of emergency preparedness exercises for staff in each of our schools. In partnership with local law enforcement, school staff in each building will participate in activities designed to enhance our readiness for the unexpected.

On the designated date for your child’s school, students will be dismissed early so we may conduct the safety exercise with all school staff. Transportation will be provided. There will be no morning or afternoon kindergarten. A Child’s Place (ACP) will not be open in your child’s school on the designated safety exercise date.

On each of the exercise dates, only the identified building will have an early dismissal. The other seven schools will remain open for regular school hours.

The dates for each building’s exercise are listed below. We will send a reminder as the date for your child’s school approaches.

Hillside Elementary School - January 25, 2023, student dismissal: 12:45 pm
Valley Forge Middle School - February 7, 2023, student dismissal: 12:17 pm

General Safety Reminder

There have been several, recent confirmed cases of local criminal activity in public places close to the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District. TESD, in conjunction with local law enforcement, would like to share some general safety tips:

  • Be alert to your surroundings and aware of the people around you.
  • If you encounter a suspicious person or suspicious vehicle, move quickly in the opposite direction.
  • Park in well-lighted areas and have your car keys in your hand so you can enter your car quickly if needed.
  • Do not feel the need to respond to conversation from strangers.
  • Walk in groups or pairs whenever possible.
  • Always lock car doors after entering or leaving your car.
  • If you think you are being followed, call 911 and head to a public place or a police or fire station.
  • Trust your sixth sense. If a situation makes you feel uncomfortable, move to a safe location where others are present. Make noise or scream to attract attention if needed.

Parents are encouraged to talk with their children about general safety practices and to notify the police of any suspicious activity.

Nominate a Teacher for the Citadel Heart of Learning Award

Dear T/E Families,

Each year since 2001, Citadel Bank and the Chester County Intermediate Unit have partnered to present the Citadel Heart of Learning Award to outstanding teachers in the Greater Philadelphia region. This award program provides an opportunity to recognize teachers who have made a particular impact on their students, schools and communities. Please consider nominating one of our many dedicated and deserving teachers this year for the 2022-2023 Citadel Heart of Learning Award. This is just one small way to express gratitude for the outstanding commitment they have made to T/E students.

If you are interested in nominating a TESD teacher, you may use the two links below. The first link provides much more detailed information about the awards process. The second link is a nomination form that can be completed online. The deadline for submission is January 15, 2023. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Dr. Richard Gusick
TESD Superintendent of Schools
