July 14, 2019 ~ Building Community One Positive Story at a Time
Bridgewater Blooms
The truest sign of summer in Bridgewater is the week or so when all the landscaping and flowers are planted and blooming in the Common leading toward the Academy Building.
Consider taking a stroll along the Common, maybe on the way to the Music Alley or the Library, and take it all in in person. The Common is a great place to relax, read, gather, and located in the heart of Bridgewater.

Thank you, Veronica Ellis for these photos!

BSU and Town Officials Welcome 2019
Mandela Washington Fellowship
For the fourth straight year, BSU has been chosen as an institute partner for the flagship program of the U.S. government's Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). The Mandela Fellows represent several sub-Saharan African nations and are in Bridgewater for a six-week leadership in public management institute program.  The fellowship helps participants grow as leaders through academic study, mentoring, networking, service and other activities. Information on this fellowship and how to get involved or partner can be found at https://yali.state.gov/mwf/ .

At the event on June 26th, Bridgewater Town Officials, featuring Town Manager Michael Dutton and his staff, were invited to speak to the Mandela Fellows on BSU's campus where they shared their experiences and the challenges of working in a municipal organization. Town Manager Michael Dutton, Assistant Town Manager Kimberly Williams, and Assistant Town Planner Elijah Romulus had a wonderful discussion with the Fellows and are looking forward to more partnership opportunities with the University. Partnership with the Mandela Washington Fellows provides and increases opportunities both in the United States and Africa.

The Mandela Fellows also made an appearance at Bridgewater Community Dance on June 7th. There, they experienced and participated in the opening dance, "The Sun Meditation," and also in several other dance and conversations throughout the night. Check out the Bridgewater Community Dance page for more info.

Kindness. There's never enough.
And it's one thing we can do to change our world. Give it a try; spread kindness around.

“Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.” ~ Princess Diana

“Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.” ~ Scott Adams

“A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.” ~ Saint Basil
Random Acts of Kindness. You would be amazed at the way simple things impact people's lives.
