Fix The Steeple Fund Drive at 95% ~ WOW!!!
Dear Friends,
In early September we began a public campaign to raise $15,000 for significant repairs to our steeple, hoping to meet our goal and end the campaign by December 31, 2021. Because of generous donations from our congregation and our community and friends, we have reached 95% of our goal so far. Based upon pledges and promises from some who have not yet given, and our belief that added support is forthcoming, we are taking a leap of faith and ending the formal campaign on November 30, 2021. We cannot begin to express adequate thanks to all who have given to this campaign. You have helped us to save a true icon of history for our church and for the town of Halifax. We are especially thankful this Thanksgiving week and wish everyone a joyful, healthy, happy Thanksgiving.

CHECK: Payable to Halifax Congregational Church, 503 Plymouth Street, Halifax, MA. 02338. Please denote “steeple project” in memo section on check.
Blessings to you all,

Historical Tidbit:
First Department Store Santa
With the holidays fast approaching there is no escaping the coveted Christmas music singing loudly over speakers in department stores, the store's shelves stocked miles deep with all kinds of festivities to celebrate the season in whatever way you please. But there's one special holiday tradition that holds it's roots right in our own backyard.
In December of 1890, James Edgar of Brockton, Massachusetts became America's first ever department store Santa Claus. Commonly referred to as "Colonel Jim", Edgar ventured to Boston in the weeks leading up the Christmas that year and had a special Santa costume tailored. He then began making appearances and in turn, helping childhood dreams come true.
Children began flooding in for the chance to meet Santa at Edgar's Department Store in Brockton from all over Boston, Providence, and even from New York. Many who had the chance to meet Edgar as Santa still look fondly back at these memories, describing the magic he created for them.
In the years that followed, department store Santa's became a staple for the holiday season. While others may claim to have had a department store Santa before 1890, Santa historians still name our very own James Edgar as the first with a known identity, and the first to inspire more, making his appearances all the more special.

The Power of Kindness
Passages from Kylee Eagles, DO
"To bring more kindness into your life, I advise you to slow down and start noticing the world around you. You will start to notice opportunities to perform acts of kindness. No act is too small. However, the more kindness you spread, the larger impact your will have on your health and others. A patient of mine told me a beautiful story of how she had given extra boots, hats and mittens to neighbors after noticing them playing in the snow without any winter gear. Over the years, she gave what she could. Fifteen years later, one of the kids knocked on her door to thank her. My patient was pleasantly surprised to realize how much her act of kindness mattered.
Increasing how many kind acts you perform daily is like developing a good habit. The more you practice being kind, the easier it will be to be kind. You can grow your kindness muscles. Be patient with yourself as you make this positive change."

Kindness
Yes, Kindness
“Attitude is a choice. Happiness is a choice. Optimism is a choice. Kindness is a choice. Giving is a choice. Respect is a choice. Whatever choice you make makes you. Choose wisely.”
~ Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
“The lotus is the most beautiful flower, whose petals open one by one. But it will only grow in the mud. In order to grow and gain wisdom, first you must have the mud --- the obstacles of life and its suffering. ... The mud speaks of the common ground that humans share, no matter what our stations in life. ... Whether we have it all or we have nothing, we are all faced with the same obstacles: sadness, loss, illness, dying and death. If we are to strive as human beings to gain more wisdom, more kindness and more compassion, we must have the intention to grow as a lotus and open each petal one by one.”
~ Goldie Hawn
“Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair, but manifestations of strength and resolution.” ~ Kahlil Gibran
“Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” ~ Desmond Tutu
|
“Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.”
~ Lao-Tzu
Here we are, we just need to be kind to each other, it's a good place to start on any day.
Enjoy your day. ~ Jacquie
